Anyone who used their maps last night at around 11.00pm might have noticed a rather large red blob in MHC-(something,something) when looking at ship kills!
This was due to a gate camp of mammoth proportions (well for me it was the first I'd seen anywhere near that size). I counted around 40 ships from frigs to bs's and HACs.
Anyhow, it being my birthday yesterday I had decided I would take my typhoon out on a mission - not caring if it got killed (5 days left on insurance)! Originally I thought I'd try to emulate the exploits of a pod-pilot who's story I had read and admired. So I kitted my Phoon (formally named 'The Hungry Hippo') with 6 Large named SB's a cloak, large nos, web, large shield extenders and Stabs! Oh and a compliment of heavy and medium drones and headed out into Syndicate.
This is where my plan deviated somewhat. I jumped into MHC where there was the afore-mentioned camp. Eeeek!! I went straight to warp and fortunately those stabs did me proud. On warping out I thought I'd give a burst of a SB - hitting a malediction for 300 If only I'd activated all 6!
Anyway i got out and cloaked for a while pondering my next move. Here was the plan, use my insta to the gate, unleash my SB's and suicide my phoon as I knew lots of them were sat in the gate. Off I went, sure enough, there was the hoard of nasty campers many inside my 5km range! 'Whammo' go my 'F' keys - "argh crap!" I go, as I am notified I can't activate sb's within 5km of the gate! "jump jump jump jump! Phew!". I can only imagine how much fun that would have been .
Disappointed I am determined to take a few of these guys out! So with a mate Fraps'ing I jump back in (avoiding their warp bubble). None within 5km - I'll get cloaked quick and try to crawl towards them!...
Sadly I wasn't quick enough with the cloak and i get a wave frigs, cruisers and AFs/Inties storming towards me. 'Not all bad' I think to myself, 'I'll hit a few as they approach'. Sure enough I decloak and I start spamming those 'F' keys... Nothing... Noooo damn you lag!!
Eventually 1 SB comes online, 2, 3. Whammo those BS's start to hit my 9000 HP shields... Warp fails so I hit the nos, web, everything - I might as well!
Suffice to stay I died - escaped with my pod but was desparately disappointed to have only killed 3 frigs! I know I got at least 2 or 3 cycles outof my sb's, maybe would have been more if lag had been on my side.
Still I enjoyed it thoroughly.
That's not the end of tale however. A few jumps away I had a cheetah so I went and got that just as i was informed a fleet had come to engage the campers. Back I go. I try to jump into MHC - a 2nd fleet has entered the battle!!!
10 longs minutes I get into the system, i cloak and warp. Sadly uber lag means I can't get to the battlefield and I'm stuck somewhere. I would have loved to watch the battle so I ask if anyone who was involved could fill me in on how it went I'm sure it will make a good read.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed losing The Hungry Hippo! Cheers to all involved!

Hehe, lots of fun. the anticipation before the act was exhilirating(sp?). After that it was all a bit hopeful. 6 10km SB's would have made things interesting!! I think I'll start saving for those!!

Its about everything but pressing f() . Its thinking what will happen when you go in and what you hope to achieve that makes PVP cool.
Mining and PVP are the same you are just killing another player is the differance. -------------------------- I have big balls of Plasma coming out of my guns. |

Goonfleet and OSS was the second fleet:) We successfully managed to eject the campers. We got 2 of their battleships, a bunch of their smaller ships. we lost 1 battleship, and an ungodly amount of frigates and cruisers, ALL t1. Was an entertaining fight. i really wish the lag wasnt so crappy. it wold of been a pretty fun fight.
good fight to all there:)

We were more hoping for GF than truly camping the place (nasty incursus scouts roaming around), 3rd front alliance turning from blue to shooting us was mostly unexpected, but I guess it's how politics turn . Goon Tech I army (tacklers / cruisers) was annihilated, and their battleships warped away as our tacklers got close allowing us to warp in against long range fittings. Anyway, everyone will have its own reading of the engagement, sure thing to remember is Kudos to everyone present for the great battle raging for almost 30 minutes in MHC.
Special award goes to lag, rendering 30/40% of both fleets mostly ineffective. |

I'm not pretending to fully understand how the servers cope with large numbers suddenly all jumping into one part of a system, but I really hope there are significant improvements made soon.
I'm not saying lag spoils things completely but it does take the sheen/glossy alloy of big battles. I would have really enjoyed watching and learning from the fleets involved.
Hopefully you will all keep fighting and I can add to my frig kill count!

Just want to say that you guys are some great opposition. Much respect for the fact you guys stay and fight and don't warp off the minute our blobs show up.

Hi,
Sorry, but GoonFleet attacked us, not the opposite. THEY engaged our POS as we where anchored it last monday, and they destroyed it whitout any warning while we planted it out of their claimed region and as we never engaged a GoonFleet before.
You (3FA) engaged us yesterday whitout any warning too. You betrayed us while we where in peace and get a +5 standing whith you. I guess in these conditions is wasn't too difficult for you to kill 2 of our battleships...
As of this moment, we putted all 3FA corp a -10 standing and will shoot you as any pirate corp.
I am really sad that things goes like this, but YOU betrayed us.
Balthorus.

Edited by: Zosh on 02/02/2006 19:39:26 Haha I was one of those frigates that got killed. I managed to tackle a BS and it died before me so meh. Frigates are free anyways.
Also it wasn't a case of 3FA betraying anyone. Two allied corps, one +10 and one +5 (I suppose), if they fight, who do you side with? Right.
PS: that was a great story, I have to try a suicide SB fit sometimes

Indeed, but as the others where friend, the slightest of things would be that I'll advertise them and not shoot them in theyr back...

Howdy,
Didn't get a chance to say it last night due to the horrendous lag, but good fight all around. Second battle that I've fought against ODN and they all seem like stand up guys (except the whole KOS thing ) |

Well, from Goonfleet's perspective, we saw someone who we didn't know anything at all about placing a large POS up (one? two?) hops away from our home systems. It's many times easier to take a POS down while it's being placed than once it's up, so we felt we had to strike while the station was still vulnerable, before we found out that your corporation was a shell corp for one of our enemies or something of the sort.
In other words, even though you didn't place the POS directly in our claimed space, it was close enough to our claimed space that, in the absence of prior negotiation, we had to presume hostility.
Honestly I think that with a little more negotiation we might've been able to work something out and never fired a shot -- you guys seem like good people on the whole.
It might just be a language barrier problem -- so few of us speak french, I imagine few of you speak english. It's hard for us to negotiate with each other.

I do not agree. You should have take us in hostages without open fire until your leaders ask us what we are doing here. With your 45 fighters fleet against our 20 one, it wouldn't be difficult, we had no chances...

Great battle indeed, much respect from both, that's always welcome ... except the backstab episod, nvm !
Just few question : Should a corp ask everyone leaving around if they could set a POS ? Goonfleet was never reported to lead this area ... Should you also ask pirates if you could set a POS ? No, then don't joke, if an area is not claimed you are free to do what you want without reporting ... Btw we talked to the other local corp which exploit the system and the only time they reported Goonfleet was just to mention you were pirating ... shame to see we are shooting each other when you let the area infested by pirates ... As 3rd Front can confirm they were set blue cause they were anti-pirates like us, they hadn't be shot, except an error from a noob pilot that lead to apologizes. Even Adago could have flew safe if he haven't engaged ...
Then, we perfectly understand you just want fight. Good point is that we'll try to not disapoint you !

Edited by: CrispyKritters on 02/02/2006 21:30:15 We aren't exactly a pirate corp, we aren't exactly an anti-pirate corp, and we aren't exactly an industrial corp (YOU'RE EITHER WITH US OR AGAINST US AM I RITE?). We do tend to have a lot of pirate, pvp corps, and merc corps fight us and no one us neutral to us until you've talked to us. This may have just all been a misunderstanding. Convo one of us and we can refer you to our diplomats.

First i would just like to say that i personaly have alot of respect for Les chevaliers de l'ordre your pvp ethic is one of the best we at goonfleet have ever come across and that itself deserves alot of respect.
After reading this thread we are very interested in talking with you one on one and discussing some things, We understand your point of view a little better now however we also hope you understand where we are coming from. If anyone at ODN could make contact with either Sesfan Qu'lah or Doctor Draw we would greatly appreciate it, Thankyou.

Our policy to shoot neutrals is used throughout our informal alliance because we figure if you didn't care enough to contact the people already living there for a NAP then you probably just want a fight. We couldn't just let you waltz in 2 systems away from our home system with a large POS expecting you not to come after us, so I hope you can understand why we attacked. That said alot of us like the way you guys PvP and would like you get into contact with our diplomats so maybe we can work something out.

I hope we dont come to an agreement. You guys are really fun to fight. Not because we totally overwhelm you, because we dont, but because you dont run and hide like the people we have been fighting recently and our fleets seem to be evenly matched for the most part.
Nothing personal its just been a long time since I've had a decent fight!

The overall winner was the lag, but I know for sure I'm part of the losing team. My poor Taranis was first on the BS's and the first thing to go pop :(
EDIT: Good fight though, I enjoyed it. All the 20 seconds of it :D
