Hey all,
Cyan, the creators of Myst and Riven have a new game they are trying to make called Obduction. There is a Kickstarter campaign for it and they could use your support!

I know a lot of us gamers started with Myst so I figured I'd share here. |

I just hope it can happen. Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True ReligionGÇöseveral of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself, and cuts his throat if his theology isnGÇÖt straight. --Mark Twain |

Cyan is great at building beautiful worlds and intriguing stories. Here's hoping they can make it. |

MYST was unbelievable!!!
IT let me explore my mind as much as the game world at a point in my life where having another world to dive into was very much necessary for me. I just wish my life choices had been fruitful enough to throw the rest of the cash, these guys need, at them plus some. I will donate a little and cross my fingers that others will feel like I do but are in the position I wish I was in |

Am I the only person that sees these crowd sourcing ventures negatively? I understand that great ideas get passed up everyday by typical investors etc. However this a well known established company pan handling and playing on the emotions of their fans to keep them employed. In a way maybe all of us could relate to. The Mittani looses all that he has except obviously his reputation and starts pan handling in Jita to bring him back to relevancy how would most of you see that?
1.1 Million for this project is fairly small. I am sure Miller has an asset worth that to fund this. If he truly believed in the mission at hand why would he not just do it? Trust me I get everything about mitigating exposure etc. but if I was him the LAST place I would go is to my fans begging for money to make them a game.
What happens if this doesn't happen? What will become of Cyan? Something tells me they will work on small projects to get the capital they need to self fund the project and make it happen, or they will go bankrupt.
The very last and certainly biggest part of my issue with crowd funding is the reward for the crowd. So I get to pay you now for something that won't come for a year plus. You take my money as an investment and my reward is the product. You then can take that finished product and sell it to everyone else who didn't invest and keep all the profits of that. IMO this goes from the devs getting fleeced by the Publishers to the Devs fleecing the consumer. The sad part is, so many are willing to stand in line and just hand over the money. |

6 million copies sold say otherwise. Especially for a title that was published at a time when computer gaming was still considered a preliminary step to devil worship. |

Myst and Riven were never my cup of tea. However, there was a certain quality about them. I wish their cerators the best of luck.

It's a mechanic equal to pre-ordering, were people pay up-front for produce that is not (yet) in existance. Exceptions aside, nothing good can come off it, imo. |

Definitely a tool for scamming but if you check your sources once can balance the risk. A studio like this will probably, use the funding they get to do what they can then get a second, more successful, kick start with additional material too boost confidence. I do not see a company like this, taking this much money, with absolutely no intention of making the game happen. But I have been wrong before. |
