Say what ain't so? The article quotes CCP as saying almost nothing.
The author had nothing concrete to report, but he had a deadline to write something, so he wrote that he couldn't confirm anything.
Guess what that means.... Nothing.
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all. |

Well, CCP has said and done weird things in the past... but calling "huh, maybe, perhaps" to PC+OR for Valkyrie is plain bemusing to watch. Yaaay, EVE-VR is ruined... maybe.
Honestly, I do not think I'd play it if it were a console exclusive title. Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

It would be odd to not be for the PC. Not PC only? Perhaps but not PC? ...
They've announced that Valkyrie will utilize the Oculus Rift - OR has stated that it will be setup for the PC and mobile technologies -- consoles far down their priority list. Now if it works with mobile tech, that may be an interesting "platform" for a game but not the PC when that's where they'll build it? ...
You also have "market metrics information" to look at.
The highest crowd-source funded game in history is Star Citizens - a space fighter sim, crowd sourced to over $24 million so far and accelerating demand and acceptance as they begin to show deliverables.
The demand for a quality PC based space sim game is demonstrably there so not selling into what appears to be a "refreshed" growth market area... I don't think that would be a smart decision.
Little competition, solid background with PC based MMO success... Leveraging that for PC based sales wouldn't be difficult but console based? CCP doesn't have a solid strong background there but they do have one for PC based games.
It wouldn't necessarily be limited to the PC but not doing it would seem a bit silly and self-defeating. |

That may have been the original idea... but an arcade style PvP shooter with no connection to the greater universe of EVE would have and never will be any competition to the fully fledged scifie sim SC is going to be.
So, it might as well come out as a PS4 exclusive. "ginger forum goddess, space gypsy and stone nibbler extraordinaire!" Shalua Rui - CEO and founder of Rui Freelance Mining (RFLM)

Wouldn't worry about the whole thing. There aren't that many platforms available that the game would fit on exclusively. The part about PC/OR doesn't worry me either: It's just so they're on the same side. If they say the game will be an "OR launch title" and they release the game on day X, everyone will expect the OR would be ready by then as well. Looking for more thoughts? Follow me on Twitter. |

They can negotiate it so Sony gives them big money and essentially covers their development expenses. i mean, they can do good business out of it.

And, one could conclude that MS is or will be attempting to do the same.
Oculus goofed up, imo, by revealing before the next gen console release. If they had posted it after, they'd have given the respective companies a lot to worry about to try and fit them backwards compatible with their consoles. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á |

In the real world people are not allowed to confirm anything until the marketing department rubberstamps it.
this article is a load of hot air and nothing. obviously it will release on PC because OR is not being developped for any other platform right now, but until the marketing blurb goes out nothing will be confirmed -- this is a standard industry practice. |

I hope they have learned from the faliure of DUST.
The fans of CCP play their games on computers. Even though I plan on buying a PS4, I will be bummed out if VAL doesnt come out on the PC.
The situation now: I have a PS3, but playing FPS games with a gamepad is like shaving with a rock. Thus I do not play DUST.
Valkyire will be more suited for the gamepad, but the core audience is still on PC. So even though it doesnt have to be a PC excusive. It sure as hell needs to be there.

CCP spent years on this, and probably lots of dough to boot. They also have to pay for the servers.

Not true. Most MMOs start out acceptably strong then bleed off players after a few months.
DUST is just a flop. They tried, I get it. And now it's coupled in with EVE, so it's not easily gotten rid of.

Much like EVE, it is starting with a small but loyal base that will grow as the game does over time. It's not designed to be a big bang that dies after a few months, it's designed for the slow burn.
I wouldn't count it out just yet. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

The difference is that those people paid subs. No one does for DUST. Sure, maybe some of them pay for "boosters", but you can't tell me that the majority do.
Heck, anyone I've mentioned it to automatically tells me that there isn't much in "playing a P2W shooter". Or they say "I'll stick to Planetside 2 since it's on PC".
The console game crowd doesn't like it(they are spoiled for choice anyway), the PC game crowd can't play it. What about that spells success? I guarantee you that they are losing money just on maintaining the game and staff for the game. Which means that our EVE subs are paying for it, too.

Well Custom PC Magazine Issue 123 has an article about the long waited for reappearance of Space based PC games.
Written by Rick Lane
The introduction includes this: 'players options were limited to X3 or EVE. If you weren't a fan of distinctly German-flavoured space simulations or incredibly unforgiving MMOs, the only option was to look at other genres'
It then lists and reviews 8 new PC space games on the horizon.
EVE: Valkyrie is one of them.
The end quote for Valkyrie section is 'Given the footage CCP has made available, the potential for an amazing immersive experience is very exciting'
So even if it is ported to other platforms it is coming to a PC.
Time to get those neck musles back into shape
