LMFAO
Good look to them, the day this happens is the day the internet curls up and dies.
Its already privatised in as much as we technically pay for everything we do by using our ISP's.
Then we have to pay to sign up to many things, you wanna website, you generally have to pay somewhere along the line.

Rubbish. Must be a conspiracy rag of some sort.
I work for one of the US largest cable and broadband providers and there is nothing of that sort in the works. _______________________________________________

CBS seem to be takeing it seriously http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/
They're useing a lot of words to sensationalise it. Basicaly, the internet providers want to charge us more for useing sites that use more bandwidth (such as films for example).
Its up to you to judge if this is fair or not. ----

It won't work. If a company was to impose such regulations a rival without the restrictions would take its customers away.

British Telecom has been planning to do this for a while thats why BTW they have been upgrading the UK's Broadband network.
The basic idea is to make phone callls free and to charg for internet acces this will work better than in america because British Telecom owns all the lines in the UK all the other internet providers basically just rent line access.
I agree tho its a worrying idea especially for america which is so dependent on the internet. Sadly im sure it will happen as Big buisness definatly has the wilpower to do this so it will happen eventually either in short steps or in fast strides.
Lets hope the law makers keep up with this to ensure fareness.

Edited by: Harry Voyager on 07/02/2006 07:07:43 Catch is, relatively speaking, it's not that hard, or that expensive to get a T1 line run to your house and set up a small scale broadband internet provider.
The entire system is just to fundamentally open for a few large groups to be able to lock everyone else out.
