I woke up for work early this morning. Unusual, as I'm almost always late. So, I thought about a little Eve before work. See if I could catch and kill anything. Get my day off to a good start.
So, I'm floating around several systems in my Sacrilege. I can't find anything. I bring the map up, look at the nearby systems and... Aha, 3 pilots in a system 2 jumps away.
So, I insta there and begin using the scanner. I don't find anything. I check the belts on the scanner... Aha, top belt is out of scanner range. I warp to 15km at the top belt, wondering if anything will be there. I keep clicking "Scan", to see if I'm warping in on anything. After a few scans, I see an Apoc and an Osprey. Well, I tell myself, it's obvious what the Osprey's doing, but is the Apoc helping it mine, or is it just protecting it? Hmm... I think I'll find out.
I come out of warp and I see them both about 25km away from me. I approach the Apoc. Just before I get into scram range, the Osprey warps out. This doesn't bother me, as I want the Apoc.
I get closer and closer to the Apoc. 23km, 22km, 21km... Until finally I can activate my disruptor (Afterburner's are good, but not as fast as you want them to be). I close in further on the Apoc, as I start to unleash my heavy missiles. Closer. Closer still. Until I can activate my nos, too. I slowly work away on his shields.
All of a sudden, my lock is broke. Huh? Jammers? Alas, no, he warps off. Damn. Stabs. I make a hasty retreat and go back to my home system to sit out my flag. Whilst my flag's sitting out, I decide to go for a shower.
I come back from the shower and have another look around. I check the map. Hmm... Still 3 pilots in the same system. I dock up and take off my 20km scrambler and my sensor booster. I replace these with 2 7.5km scramblers. After the brief setup change, I set off.
Enter the system, warp to top belt 15km... Scan, scan, scan... They're still there. I drop out of warp 20km away. I slowly afterburn my way towards the Apoc. The Osprey warps off again. I don't care, that Apoc's mine. I get closer and closer, until I'm nearly in scramble range.
****. The Apoc's moving. He's warping away. I still can't scramble him. He's picking up speed... Not now he's not! Scrambled. I activate both my 7.5km scrams at the same time. He starts to slow down. He can't warp. Success, I have him.
After about 5 minutes of bombarding him with missiles, I convo him and ask for a ransom. I won't repeat what he says, it wasn't very nice, but the answer was no. After about literally another 10 minutes, he goes pop and he's in a pod (damn me for taking the sensor booster off, his pod got away).
As normal, I'm then subjected to being smack-talked, swore at, etc. I'm the "idiot", but I'm not the one who was killed 
Morale of the story: If you get away from a pirate once, don't try your luck again, because it always, always runs out when you least expect it to.

you must suk in a sacrilidge if it took u 20mins or woteva to pop him. bord flaming ftl

Ha ha ha Jay. I think I know exactly who this individual is as I had a shot at an apoc and an osprey in my Ferox sitting mining with total disregard for my prescence only yesterday. I was just happy I found them before you guys did.
I got into scramble range (osprey had warped off) but only had 1 20km scrambler and the apoc warped off.
However they had about 30K m/3 of ore so I knicked it before I had to log off as I assumed the person would not be so foolish as to just go back and mine again and I wanted something out the attack. Needed some minerals too for a little bit of building so I'm glad I could spread the booty a bit by letting them live to, em, die another day :)

Jay whats the point of your post exactly? obviously the guy you popped knows the moral of your story now and anyone that takes a browse in this forum reading the whine threads knows better. Infact the only people that are not going to know are people that dont read eve-o forums and never will so why dont you just stick that in your bio for eveyone to read so they know in advance when they see you warp in.
Then again what pirate doesn't get tired of stroking his ego now and then  , did you get a nice tingly feeling?

I think the point was to tell a story of crime and a foolish person who was easily the victim of it. This is the crime and punishment section of the forum is it not?
And I personally do not need my ego stroked - I get a tingly feeling by simply thinking about just how god damn amazing I really am - heh heh.

Don't underestimate teh carebear to the extent you go take a shower to wear off yer timer. Once in a blue moon they'll surprise you and know someone or themselves be skilled enough with probes to ruin your day.

I did say I was using 3 heavy missiles and 3 medium nos (which is what I prefer to use, as the missiles do some damage and the nos is for safety reasons.
But point taken. I knew the Apoc was mining and I should have put more guns on my ship when I put on more scramblers. My mistake.
