I started playing eve today after downtime to find out that the game was completely lagged. Then I realized that in armageddon, the lag was pretty bad too, so I figured out that lag is a matter of perception and reference.
No, EVE is not lagged today, just a big more than armageddon was. _______________________________________________

That's a lot of waiting but would you call that lag? Less then 2500 online minus one more.
Glad to see things improving around here.

Back when I played E&B, a few EVE beta testers summed up their experience with these words:
"EVE? It's about as exciting as watching paint peel."
Today I understand what they meant.

Dear EVE players,
I hope you enjoyed your almost flawless day of gameplay yesterday. Of course since you all play our game you know very well that actual game play time without lag or crashes is few and far between. It is now time for our daily DoS attack/server instability/admin day off. We ask everyone to enjoy the game the best they can during this period. If you are lucky we might only have a brief network problem tomorrow.

Its taking me about 30seconds to get through each gate, not counting the time its loading the next system etc.
What is wrong with it now? Another dos attack? Some info on what's going on would be helpful!

Iceland must be in short supply for admins. In less than 30 mins you can isolate the bastard that is causing the DOS attack and apply the right filters, and balance cpu load, if in fact it is someone doing it. If its another database problem, you must not be paying your DBA enough $. Split out your tables, tweak your shared memory settings... It just seems that it's almost a daily occurance of problems. Take down the cluster and overhaul the ***** to get it done right.

Aside from with DOS attacks filtering the content doesn't help, your pipe is still blocked. All you can do is get your upstread ISP to filter the attacks and that as with most things will take time.
Also CCP admitted in the dev blog that the 2nd dos turned out to not be a dos and was their fault. I have to admire companys that actually tell the truth no matter how emarasing it may be. They've earn't a few points in my book.
BTW do you honestly beleive that CCP would not take DDOS attacks and other server issues seriously? They're in this to make money, and the only way they can do that is to keep the players happy, they will bend over backwards to do so, but as with most things it will take time and lots of it.
