Originally by: Taerenius So, I've been flying my ferox for about a month and a half now, it's been my favorite ship by far the entire time. At one point I was thinking of moving to a Harpy, and at another point to a Raven, but I love the Ferox so much I just can't bring myself to move on to another ship, so I'm focusing on pure Ferox specialization for now, working towards skills that will make me the most badass Ferox pilot in the universe ;)
So, obviously with having flown the ferox for a month and a half I've had time to really work on tons of different setups, and have probably spent more than 150million in modules just refitting stuff and swapping stuff out, to come up with my current setup (which will be modified slightly in the future as certain skills go up).
The current setup I have is the following:
high: 2x 200mm Prototype I Gauss Gun 5x 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher
Med: 2x Active Hardener I (kin/expl for my setup for angels) 3x Large Shield Extender II
Low: 2x Shield Power Relay I 2x Ballistic Control System II
Now, basically what this does, at my current skill level, is give me a really fast rate of fire on the launchers (<8s each), a good damage bonus on the launchers, and enough shield recharge rate and a high enough shield hp to tank extremely well. At my current skill level I can tank a triple 1.4mil BS spawn (maybe triple 1.55, haven't run into one for awhile), and they cannot break my shield tank at all. Not only that but I can run the active hardeners forever (literally) without worrying, and since the only thing draining cap is my hardeners and the railguns I basically have an inifinite tank.
Couple things.
#1) It's also neat to swap out the 2 200mm's for 1 250mm and a small tractor beam for fast looting (looting w/o afterburner or tractor beam is NOT fun)
#2) I would fit 2 250mm but I don't have enough power grid, and swapping a shield power relay for a PDU II SEVERELY reduces tanking capability.
#3) With my current skill level, my cap stabilizes at about 65% with the setup listed above.
I've done a lot of experimenting with active setups, and to be honest they only tanked about the same as my current setup, and they could only run for 4-5 minutes, whereas this one can run forever.
Once I train shield management from level 2 to level 4 that will add another 1000 or so shield hp, which will also increase the recharge rate. Also planning on training shield op to level 5 for that extra 5% recharge.
Please note that, to kill large BSes you really need both BCU II's. With no BCU's The largest BS I can kill is MAYBE 800k, but it would take awhile. With one BCU II, I can kill a 950k but cannot break the tank on a 1.1mil. With both BCU II's I can kill a 1.1mil, and have not yet fought anything larger, but I have high hopes, especially as I train up warhead upgrades, rapid fire, and heavy missiles (right now heavy missiles is at 3, rapid fire is at 3, and warhead upgrades is at 2, once I have them all to 4 that will be another significant damage boost).
Hopefully this type of setup will help someone. Honestly many people in my corp gawk at how well this ferox works for 0.0 ratting. I obviously can't output the damage a Raven can, but I tank better than every Raven in my corp right now, even the ones setup for shield tanking. Also my BC skill is only at 2 right now, getting that to 4 will give another 10% shield resistance all around which could boost me up enough to tank a triple 1.7 for quite awhile (plus it will give the 200mm's 20% more range making them more useful when I first warp in).
Anyone have any thoughts on this setup? Like I said I've been flying a Ferox for about 1 1/2 months now, and I've tried just about every possible setup and read just about every NPC thread relating to the Ferox in this forum.
great setup! easily tanked a dual 200k BC and 700k BS spawn with my still not so great skills ---------------------------------------------------
