My own fault, i'll admit it
I'm relatively new to the game and have no experience in PVP or whatnot I've been doing level 2 missions in 0.4/0.3 space and I warped to a nearby gate to be greeted by 3/4? players As soon as I entered I got target locked and hit by a cruise missile or torpedo for about 450ish? damage (I have a raven) I got blown up, of course, but they didn't attack and destroy my pod, which i'm truly thankful for Going to stick to higher level systems till I get some experience and skill behind me.

I wish everyone who died would take it like that.
Good sport, tbh.
Good luck with missions in high sec space.

Lucky you. Last week i got killed and podded in a gatecamp (0.4). Lost ~100m in implants and that's alot for me since i'm only been playing for like 3 months. The most annoying thing is that i've lost my pod to LAG. Could've warped out if it wouldn't have been so laggy. Anyway it was my fault that i didn't check the map. I was doing lvl3 missions the whole day in that area without trouble and the false sense of safety sneaked in it seems. Learned a rough lesson that's for sure. Such lessons wake you up and force you to pay more attention on the map/local. But i can't stay without implants, already spent ~70m for some new ones...instead i'll just try to avoid low sec whenever i can and i will ALWAYS check map.
BTW what would be some good methods of clearing out or at least stirring up gatecamps with the aid of sentries? talking about <-5 ppl
After i got podded i jumped into a frigate and i wanted to go back there and test how long i can survive against 5 BS...i figured i might avoid fire long enough (and scramble 1 BS) for sentries to pop him. But my clone was far away and till i got back the camp broke up. Anyway would this be doable? or only with a group of frigs?

if u were to attack a player first u would get sentry agro(unless he is -5) so he would have to attack first. and alot of snipers/tankers use wcs so u would need to have more points than him. u could set up for tackle/speed and orbit very close at high speeds in which case the gate guns would take him out, with u being not hit alot(save sb) Signature graphics are permitted, as far as i know text is not a graphic, so ya my sig please |

I personally believe you're not playing Eve if you don't lose a ship or two and get podded at some point.
If you consider yourself a noob and are flying a Raven. I would consider a cheaper rig to do those lev 2 missions in.
Many folks make the mistake of flying a BS, HAC or even a BC without the skills to back it up. Very easy to get in over your head that way.

Edited by: Jahjj on 04/02/2006 14:16:45 lol... This happened to me also last night...
Minding my own buissness as the total newb that I am to this game and I learned a couple valuable lessons.
I learned that buying good insurance comes in handy after being gate ganked like I was last night. Another bit I learned was to not purchase a ship that I am qualifyed for If Im not qualifyed to equip it properly.
I found the hard way that expensive fast ships arent squat without weapons of defences etc.
But the sad part for my ship destroyer from last night is that I am a very fast learner and wont forget you....and I wont miss

Flew my stupid self straight into an RA camp today (a not quite insta insta), Stabber popped in around 10 seconds, pod was done just as fast.
25Mil of loot blown up, but on the upside I didn't have to travel the remaining 18 jumps to empire

All the level 2 missions are easy to do in a cruiser or assault frig, using a BS is real overkill (and in this case, expensive).
Use a cheap rig, no great loss if you get ganked.

Unfortunately, you can't get the experience you need in high sec. Skills, yes.

lesson to be learned also have instas in ganker known systems, easy to make and better than losing a 100mil bs and implants. but if you get caught as you are warping there isnt really anything you can do just hope its short and painless
p.s always have instas in the egghelende system it is overrun with gankers

Yep i've met my fate in Egghelende, a infested area. Although it's much safer now with SNUFF out of there, it's still very dangerous.

Most people are like that the first time it happens.
Its when people get smacktalked and it happens every time you go into lowsec people get anoyed.
I am however impressed with the OP's philosopical take on the whole thing :)

Theres a difference in loosing your ship and getting podded. --- Chaos theory --- It has been said something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing. Can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world.

Heh. I'm usually somewhat less gracious. There's a difference between grumbling about getting shot down and using a few choice words because, let's be honest, it sucks to be shot down, and outright abuse. Am I going to be happy and go "Hey, thanks man!" No, because you shot me down, you jerk. I'm not on nearly enough drugs to be happy about it.
I think victims of piracy have the right to be a little irritated and grumble some and it not being greifing.

For your sake I hope you're just grinding standing, instead of actually caring about/needing the mission rewards.
If level 2s are giving you trouble in a cruiser, get more skills, not a bigger ship. Don't get out another Raven until you start level 4 missions. (Or you want to scout some of the harder level 3s.)
But it sounds like you learned your lesson, good job on that. -- Swethren > tank god for drones :) Kitty O'Shay > I'd rather not tank god, his dps is |

yeah i personaly find having a very fast ship to be key for surviving a gate camp. Cloak also help greatly you just have to hope the campers have bad eye sight if your cloaked in a raven. also never carry anything of imporatance in your cargo holds during the busy hours during eve that way then don't get much off you. Casein point i was doing some scout work in the syndicate are and ran into a gate camp. I figured the Pheonix alliance was friendly but alas they were not. All they got off me was a cloak and some standard missle launchers not a whole lot of wealth. In fact i think the cloak might have been destroyed in the battle. Though i was not podded i was jumping as the kestrel i was using got blown up so it was not a major loss for me. So rule of thumb make it so if you do get killed they get nothing out of the kill. Thats my motto for ship loss.
like my sig? i can make you one for a small price. |

well i just was looking for a topic bout pirates with the "right" attitude. well a few minutes ago i got killed by some members of Pink Panther Project [p.p.p.]. it was a short fight and i didn`t have a chances of winning it, so i landed in my pod quiet fast. one of the attackers wanted isks for the pod. well in such situations i`m not sure if i can trust such pirates but i decided to risk it and paid. and really i was allowed to warp away. thx to u guys. beeing a pirate is nothing for me and i dont like u anyway. but its nice to see some of u have honor and stand to their word.
greetings to the involved PPP members! perhaps there will be a day when i place the final blow on one of u
