I sometimes see a ship with a red background, and the Overview has a red bar. Checking info, I don't see anything exceptional, like a big reward, or wanted or such. What does the red mean in this case? --------------------------------------------- You don't know the power of the dark side. -- Darth Vader |

The important part of which is that if that is the case (corp war) they can kill you anywhere, anytime without CONCORD or any sentry guns to aid you!

I'm in a NPC corp. I thought they didn't have wars. --------------------------------------------- You don't know the power of the dark side. -- Darth Vader |

They don't, Gadfly...
The flashing red bar probably meant that someone stole your cargo. I've seen this from time to time when I run missions around a stargate... I tend to leave the dropped cargo until the end, then go back and pick it up. Every once in a great while someone will come along and start taking it (they flash red). Usually its a fairly new player and I just target them and they warp away.
But every once in a while... well, you know...

Well, maybe they stole somebody else's cargo, because I didn't have any out. They usually seem to be rookie ships, so your idea that they may be new (don't see how they could be any newer than me, though) makes sense. I usually see them at fairly large distances -- 40km to 50km. --------------------------------------------- You don't know the power of the dark side. -- Darth Vader |

You can check this yourself. Go to your overview settings and see what you have the red background mapped to. Also you can change the settings to reflect what seems appropiate to you or turn them off alltogether.

You realize if you see a red person in low security system means he has -5.0 sec rating. Which means... ---------

Thanks! In my Overview settings, it appears that it's a pilot with security below -5. But I'm in 1.0 space, so that doesn't make much sense, since he doesn't seem to get shot down. I'll assume it's just a wrinkle in the system. --------------------------------------------- You don't know the power of the dark side. -- Darth Vader |

Normally it just means they have a negative security rating. It could be your and my settings, such people show up as red to me as well, but I've heard other people say they see them as yellow or orange. I've never seen yellow or orange.

These colours can mean a lot of things, all depends on your overview settings coz you can change the colours as well as turning them on/off. Most alliance members will have their overview set so that friendlies are blue, enemies are red, etc. Yellow often means the pilot has a bounty on them.

I believe the flashing red means they are under -5.0 and has initiated combat with another player in the past hour. and yellow (not flashing) just means they are under 0.0 but above -5.0
