Sorry, there's no punchline unless you want to add one . Another thread got me wondering just what proportion of Devs are assigned to replacing 'the sacred cluster' and whether other stuff (*cough* Kali *cough*) also gets worked on at times like these. Just how many devs does it take to change a Tranquility?

We will probably have at least three Devs on-site monitoring the hardware upgrade. The guys in the IT department are just as protective of their "child" as the Devs in the content department. I would guess they will look like a bunch of expectant fathers.

You don't ask IBM to do anything.
However you can pay them to do just about anything.

... just great. Having this mental image of Oveur, t20 and TomB screaming "push!" in unison, as poor Eris struggles to get the new hardware into the server room through too tight doors o.O;;

I know there was talk of a different cluster location but if it is still to be in the London area I can recommend the Chandos off Trafalgar Square for the relevant Devs' beer needs

hey does anyone know how much down time is expected or anticipated? Are they changing out the servers one at a time, a couple or all at once.

Well i am in corporate support so we get calls from people saying blah exchange server is down.
This windows server needs to be rebooted, i need share access, basicly all behind the scenes stuff, and you most people won't notice it,
EX. Node Goes down on EVE, someone has to be like. Whats happening? or server so responce? someone has to push the reboot button. :)

Yeah - thats IF they let us know when they're doing it!
My luck will be that I will try to log on
"Erm, yeah... Sorry guys, the new cluster we ordered is of specification '178516hdjunbsg-237834-c', and the idiots have delivered us '178516hdjunbsg-237834-d'. We're having to put it all back in the box and send it back. Unfortunately, the old hardware his not available at the moment..."
heard in the background "Oveur, stop playing solitaire on tranquility!!!" ------------------------------------------

Its like parents watching their children playing a sandbox. Its bound to go wrong, it will be going wrong, but yet the parents always act too late
