Do these pirates drop anything worth spending a bit of time farming them?
I've found a superb spawn point for them and it'd be very easy to set up an insta-spawn of them (with the added benefit of their missiles exploding against tiny roids at the spawn point).
I was there for an hour or so today and I got lots of the following items:
220mm Vulcans
Dual 180mm Autocannons
Overdrive Injector 1's
Large crystals
XLarge Shield Boosters
Cross-Lateral Gyro 1's
What rare items can they drop?

They will drop up to (but VERY rarely) counter-balanced weapon mount.
They also drop the 220's which are decent salvage for rare mins.
Dual 180's as well I believe.
I believe they also drop slighty improved cargo's and of course all the usual angel stuff.

Counter-Balanced Weapon Mounts are well worth spending a weekend farming for.

I have a question: when you say you found a superb spawn point, do you mean an asteroid field? Or some point of interest at a planet or something?
I'm asking because in empire space, I could hardly find a system w/out 2 points of interest in it, several of which were cruiser spawns.
But I haven't really found any deep in 0.0 space.

It's in Empire Space and it's superb because it's a 0.1, very very rarely travelled through, and there are asteroids at the spawn point but it isn't a belt.
I haven't really bothered looking in 0.0 space for spawn points - asteroid belt spawns are sufficient.
I'm guessing NPC battleships will probably appear at spawn points first?
Lonetrek seems to have far higher numbers of cruiser spawn points than most of the other regions.

You got xtra large SB and Large crystals from them? That is very odd. They are cruisers and CCP nerfed BS level drops off cruisers quite a while ago. They also normalized the drop types, ie, Angels drop proj stuff, not energy.
The oddest of all though is that I've killed about 3000 depradators in the last couple of weeks and have never seen those 2 drops.

If I recall correctly, the L crystal and XLarge SB were found in the flotsam the pirates were protecting.
That probably explains why you haven't found any drops of a similar ilk from those Depradators.
An added bonus of spending time farming that area is letting the flotsam cans refresh.

The loot tables for empire space unique spawns are a LOT better than most 0.0 encounters.
Depredators - killed thousands of them and since loot tables was tuned they havent dropped that kind of stuff.

I found a similar spot in a 0.3 system in Empire space. It's actualy close to a noob system, but I rarely see anyone else out at this spot. There are two groups of pirates, one of Raiders, and the other of Depredators and Hunters. There are no fewer than 3 fixed loot containers where I've found one skill and one bp so far; nothing great, but still...
