just wondering how safe are safe spots and what do you need to do to find someone in a safe spot...if i left a shuttle in my safe spot how safe is it? my understanding of a safe spot is when you warp to a destination and half way there you create a bookmark then warp back to your bookmark. is this correct? any suggestions or info about this would be much appreciated thanks guys

basically if you go to a ss in 0.0 space with a hostile fleet in local, youd better set a timer as your got _ 110 secs before your found.

Safespots can be practially unbreakable, or they can be busted in one scan.
Depends on where u made it and how good the guy scanning is.
Best bet is to make 3-4 in system and move every minute or so..
Chk your long range scanner frequently, and look for probes. If you see 3 au probes, they're getting close and its time to worry.

Safe spots are perfectly safe.
However a safe spot is only a safe spot up until the point it gets scanned/found....once that happens is just a spot "We worship Strength because it is through strength that all other values are made possible" |

Depends on the sort of safespot, really. Some are somewhat safe. Most are not. All will prevent you from being killed for at least a minute. None will prevent you from being killed forever. If you can move between SS about once per minute, you'll be safe and effectively indestructable.
If the enemy has a good prober, you'll be found. Period. It'll just take a while, so you'll have to move. Abandoned ships can't be moved; ergo, they'll be found. The chances that someone will waste their time to probe out a well hidden abandoned shuttle are near zero, however, because the financial losses incurred by using probes (some get quite expensive, and are of course hard to find in 0.0 because there are no BPOs for them, if I recall correctly) are far greater than the financial damage incurred on one's opponent (roughly 10000 ISK.)
Actually, the lost time is worth infinitely more in 0.0 than the shuttle. :)
A special note on secure containers. They can't be probed out, and thus a well made can SS is effectively impossible to bust, unless you're foolish enough to abandon a ship there.
The safest safespot, behind of course the inside of stations or logged off, would be at a well-armed POS. It'll take enemies a while to get through those.

Safespots made by using the Observator Deep Space Probes, make very effective safe spots. As they are so inaccurate they will send your ship off into random very out of the way places in the solar system.
Most of the time they are so far away from any celestial object that you have to use at least 1 Observator Deep Space Probe to find the safe spot, which will give you a very rough estimate to where they are at. Which then forces you to do sucessive scans to narrow down your search. Which is a realy pain in the ass if they are out in the middle of nowhere, which could take up to 3 different succesful probe trianglations to get close enough to use accurate low range probes. Suffice to say, it takes a long time to bust those type of safespots.
In comparison, the "cheap" safe spot. One made by warp between to celestial objects (planet <--> planet for example) can be easily busted by scan probes as there are plenty of scan points availble to warp to within the system. (other planets, moons, stations, etc.)
So the golden rule is, the farther your safe spot is from a celestial object (which you can see by loading the scanner or looking at the closest object label located at the top right corner of your screen) the safer you are. But a corallary to this is, a safe spot is never safe, juest secure. And it is only as secure as you make it.
Just a note: Cloaked ships cannot be scanned, so any safespot will suffice, just don't be anywhere were people might get within 2km of you :D

some safespots are unbreakable... offplane ss, anyone?
Meh you get to like 150mil km away, launch 3au probes to find nothing.
I use no guns... i smack to death. |

If you mwd up (and are in a fast ceptor) a simple safespot also suffices most of the time.

the 1au scan height of a probe is just that - the height from the lowest point to the highest. That means you have 75mil km above and below it. In order for the 3aus to garantee a hit, you need to be within 75m km, not 150m.

Its only as safe as how much your ships worth I've been known to work 4 hours to find a battleship in a 400 AU safe spot before :p And yes the safest ones are made with observator probes since they can put you any direction at a 90 AU distance including up or down from the planetary plane. This does not make you invulnerable though, you can still be found with the same probes, just takes a bit of work and patience :) F-11(the old constellation map safespots that ccp nerfed) take about 30 min to bust unless the scanner gets lucky, obs probe SS's can take several hours if you are even detected at all. If your SS is in line to a planet or other celestial body, well you deserve to get probed :p I like to think of myself as the chlorine in the gene pool.

400 au ss is a axploit. As far as i know the max range is 190 au, which tbh if your intelligent you dont just have one and is far enough away to annoy the covert ops pilot trying to triangulate

the only reason observator probes can be considered safer than others (including the obscene 300au ones) is because they need observator scans which give results that clearly mix with the local population. A ss 300au safespot is WAY easier to probe because it's irrelevant of the local population if you an add the numbers of max deviation :P
What the hell is this thread doing here anyway?
