Edited by: Kel Shek on 05/02/2006 04:26:41 Ok, Double-blank posting aside...
I'm wondering what sort of strategys are likely to be best to survive encounters with pirates in lower sec.
I know that the simple answer is that theres some of all sorts, blah blah.
but is one more likely to get out intact, by simply having precautions and being able to get away? sit and take it, and hope they don't blow you to crap?
if you deploy drones and such when a possible pirate comes into a belt, would that be more likely to get you blown up... or avert it by not risking a target that might actually fight back? or...?
like for "most" would being nicely talkative in local, or being quiet and low key be better? I'm thinking .1-.4 here, not 0.0.
and with ransoms for most is it a "I won't blow you up this time" or more of a "protection" thing where they actually hang around and might even go as far as defending you from other pirates, (since you've paid them protection...) how long does that ransom usually "cover"?
but mainly the question is, would from the get go, at least trying to fight back (and if neccesary, halting before being blown up, to concede defeat, if theres an opportunity) just **** them off, or make the whole thing more... sporting, and give you a better chance of being allowed to get away alive, since it was more interesting or something?

THe best protection is to am your ship towards a station, have an insta to that station. If someone comes into local examine them. If the jump to where you are warp away and click info on their ship.
If they just turn out to be someone mining or a pansy go back. f not you got out before they locked and scrambled you.
The best protection isto have a friend in a stealth bomber who rapes anyone who gets too close. ---------

First thing you should do when a pirate jumps into the system is convo him and offer him money to leave you alone. It is the only way, you cannot run or hide from a a pirate. They are gods among men, and god sees all.

Yup. Just keep local open and info anyone new. If they are -9.9 that means you gotta keep your head up. If such is the case basically just start the warp as soon as anyone pops onto your overview, and while you are aligning you can decide if they are cool or not.

Most people decide I'm not cool and try to run away. Though watching a It5 try and do a 180 turn with 6 precision cruise flying towards it is a funny sight.
.....if they stayed longer they'd see I only want to be friends

Allways keep an eye on local, most pirates allways operate in one area for a while, just get to a safespot or a station when one enters local. ---------------------- I got pwnt by the giggling admiral BiH 4tw |

If you often see members of a particular corp in the area, see if they sell NAPs. __________________________________________ Pirates are GOOD for miners. Pirates shoot ships->New ships are built->New ships need minerals->Minerals come from ore->And ore comes from miners |

#1 - Always have local open and watch for people who appear in there. #2 - If you are mining sit alligned to a station, or if you are ratting make sure you always have enough space to warp out and able to. Like don't go in depth of asteroid field and kill rats that can web/scramble you first. #3 - If you are not outnumbered or massively outskilled for all means fight back. People die because they think of themselves as prey and try to hide.
Deploying drones always helps against pirates in light ships, but if they defeat your drones and start on you, there is a bigger chance of them just blowing you up without asking for ransom. Same goes with fighting back. If you prove to be dangerous, the pirate will most likely kill you if he wins.
As most ransoms go, they only cover that very instant you were ransomed. If that pirate sees you again, he will probably attack you again no matter how much have passed. However this differs from pirate to pirare and from corp to corp. We mark our ransomed victims as "to be left alone until server restart".
P.S. That would be bad for business if everybody did steps 1-3, but since you didn't whine or ask for the pirate n00bs to get nerfed, enjoy
