High - 4x Rocket Launcher 1's w/ Thorn
Med - MWD, Warp Scrambler, Stasis Webifier (when I get up close, I can't have my MWD on, so instead I'll use this to slow them down)
Low - Micro Aux Power Core, Ballistic Control System
How is that setup? I get very close and fire away. >.>
The thing is..I've never been able to use this setup because I can never find anyone! I hunt in .4 and lower of course for other frigates and mining barges. I don't want to have to try to destroy something with too much armor either (such as some mining barges) because I'd be there all day and by that time, my victim could get their friend.
Any tips for hunting? I generally warp to a planet, scan at 360, then set the angle lower and search each belt separately.
Also, if I happen to encounter someone, should I a) Get their ship to structure and ransom them or b) Destroy their ship, ransom their pod
I just really need to have some fun. Missions and rat hunting get boring. ;(

Nine times out of ten, people wont pay any ransom due to the fact that too many "pirates" blow up ships after ransom has been paid. Don't ever follow that route, it makes you look bad. In Eve all you have is your reputation so build it how you want it to be.
As far as your set up, that would be fine if you were in a gank squad, but solo that would get blown out of the water by darn near anyone not in a frigate, but if its miner ganks your looking for that may suffice, but you may have trouble finding miners solo mining in 0.4 that doesnt have half a brain.

Try fitting a plate to it with an afterburner, that would help with fighting larger things.

Could you perhaps recommend a good cruiser (Caldari please) to solo pirate with? I just can't see the Caracal being good, because it doesn't have that much armor, and if you'd want to warp scramble, you have to be at least 20km, and I would rather not want to get that close with my Caracal. >.>

As a caldari your supposed to shield tank.
A caracal can be a mean vessel if used right.

Blackbird+jammers would work, or maybe even a blaster Moa if you were feeling adventurous. Here are some piracy setups i've pulled out my ass.
Blackbird:
2x medium nos II 2x assault launcher
10mn AB II 3x multispec named web 20km scrambler.
Cap relay medium rep.
You'll do horrible damage, but if you can keep them nossed and jammed they'll die. Plus, the blackbird is nice and cheap so it doesnt' hurt so much when you lose them.
Moa:
4x Electron blaster 2x medium nos II
10mn AB II webber 2x 7.5km scrambler
Medium rep Explosive+Kinetic hardeners Adaptive nano
3x Warriors in drone bay.
You'll probably need AWU+engineering V to fit all of that. Once you get in range you'll be doing pretty nice damage, but you're fragile, so be prepared to warp out if things start going south.

Carc setup: 5 mal assault launchers 1 large clarity ward booster, 800 cap booster, 1 20km scram, 2 shield boost amps 2 ballistic launcher controls (1 if you dont got the CPU needed). U'll see me comin' from a mile off, igniting the skyline. |

Yeah you can solo most cruisers, but the ship setup is only half the battle . You have to know how to fly and when to run away (something I dont seem to do much).
In this cruiser I was able to crush another caracal with about 5 months more experiance then I have, so the setup does work. To make it work well use the med cap booster that has a 12 esc recharge time, or you could find yourself outta cap. U'll see me comin' from a mile off, igniting the skyline. |
