OK, so I believed the crap about crashes being my systems fault, I believed the **** about it being soundcard driver issues. I believe the tech support cretins when they say there are no known issues. So I reformat and reinstall windows, with no sound hardware present, and lo as soon as I load up it crashes when I look at my drone bay, and from then on when I load up it crashes at the same point (as it remembers that the drone bay is open).
How do you get this godforsaken game to run stably? I really want it to run as it seems like a really nice concept, but when planetside seems stable in comparison you have to wonder at the competance of the monkeys supporting it... ______

Edited by: PaulAtreides on 30/08/2003 07:23:07 Try deleting everything in your cache folder except your prefs.ini
btw. dont flame the techops...they are trying as hard as they can. I have been in Eve since beta 6 and your problem sounds unique to me. Try helping out by starting up you LogServer and loading the template then starting up eve...submit the crash information along with all your system info to the bug reporting section.

I've got to admit I think it is soundcard issues. I've got an Audigy Platinum 2 and I installed the latest drivers for that and my graphics card and everything else and the game would lock all the time .
Now I've just installed chipset drivers and graphic drivers with the standard cdrom old soundcard drivers and it hasn't crashed once except for the lag outs.
I'm not saying for certain it could be the SP1 (im running XP) that does it but I doubt it. If you have an audigy 2 like mine use the CD drivers thats what I'm doing and the game works

OK, I probably overstated my case in my initial post - It's just very frustrating to hit the same issues after the 'joy' of a reformat/reinstall. Like I said, half the reason this is so irritating is that the game seems really cool when it's not frozen solid... I would try the log server, but AFAICT that requires access to windows after the freeze, and my lockups make _everything_ lock up. I'll try again with a different sound card and see what happens (crosses fingers) ______

which OS are you running?
Are you fullscreen or windowed?
What if any background aps are running? And i mean any - Norton Antivirus Autoprotect, your soundscard's Mixer systray, anything?
And were you from Player of Games or Excession? I forget...
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

I find that the game runs and sounds much better when I kill the Audio Acceleration for the sound (nForce Soundstorm).

No idea. Got the game 24 hours ago and starting to regret it.
