Started this game today and I'am yet another one of the hopefuls looking to be able to buy plexs in-game. Could anyone give me advice on skill orders for mining so i can best progress towards making enough money to be able to pay for subscriptions asap? Thanks. |

Go mow your neighbor's lawn.
Solo Mining will make you at best 10 millions ISK per hour. Given that a subscription costs less than 15$ and a PLEX 610 millions ISK, you will be grinding for 61 hours, at a salary of 24.6 cents / hour.
Of course, if you enjoy mining, go for it, but don't do it to pay for the game. |

Grinding to earn ISK to pay for another month of grinding to earn ISK to ... will lead to a quick departure due to boredom and burnout. EVE should not be a second job. Especially early on, pay for the sub with RW money and use what you make in-game for fun. |

Start here and read through everything. This will get you started. Eve University Web Resources for Miners
Also, look into programs that will help you plan training, ships and fittings. I've used EVEMon since I started and it has always worked well for me. Others may have better suggestions.
The other replies were a bit crass but they are somewhat on the mark. Focus on the mining if that is where you think you should start (I did when I started) but when you feel you have a good grasp of it look at other opportunities.

I would recommend reading up on how to gank miners at www.minerbumping.com .
If you elect to persue a mining career, you will have more of an understanding of our tactics and of the importance of buying a permit.
If you see the light and wish to engage in miner suppression activities instead, you will find a good deal of information on how to do so there. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. Note that this is NOT required. Having a basic understanding of what gankers want to gank can help you protect yourself, though.
Trading is a reasonable way to make money in EVE. It will be a slow start since you need to work up some capital, but you can make quite a bit of ISK if you have the patience to update orders every day. Also it can be done on an alt with just half a day's training and checked a few times a day while you spend your time mining. There are plenty of good trading guides out there if you do a bit of googling.

Quick answer: Don't.
Long answer:
As said, its easier and quicker to get a RL (Part time) job to pay for the sub quicker.
I can tell you that most people that grind the entire month to pay for another mont of ISK grinding wont last long. Cause it will turn EVE into a job, a horrible low paid one. And then you still need more ISK to buy skillbooks, replacement ships etc.
So a PLEX goes for about 600 mil, you will need to grind even more then that. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

As others already said you shouldn't grind for PLEX, that is a streight way to burn any shred of fun and you should play for fun in the first place.
However if you want to earn ISK to buy PLEX in-game and you are a newbie here are few ways to do it with moderate chance of making you run away from Eve:
- you can join corp that is doing mining - they will have fleet mining ops with maxed out bonuses so you will mine more than you would alone. they will also have buyback programs so you can avoid hassle of playing market by yourself. they will also have maxed out standings and skills for reprocessing so your ore will give max minerals.
- you can train for salvaging (all you need st the beginning is destroyer with 4 tractor beams and 4 salvagers, not long time to train those) and salvage and loot wrecks left by people doing missions. there is in-game channel dedicated to this activity and there is also corp doing this service for players. I will leave finding relevant info to you. I can tell that salvage/loot is usually worth more than bounties and mission reward but a lot of people prefer to leave wreck and do another mission instead so here is your opportunity. If you can team up with L4 mission runner I would be surprised if you couldn't fund PLEX after couple of hours of salvaging (assuming mission runner is doing his job right not frakking around in some overtanked AFK bitchslapping failfit)
- you can join FW and farm those plexes like there is no tomorrow to earn Loyality Points and exchange them for items you can sell on market. And with good corp you will have plenty of fun and pvp, too.
- you can join nullsec corp and do basically the same as in FW but with PVE being anomalies and pvp being - well, whatever your corp is into: blobs, camps, small gang raids. Have you ever see Titan class ship? Well, it is huge when you are in little frig :)
Probably there is ten other things you can do to earn ISK and buy PLEX but I will leave it for you to find out. Just don't lose yourself in that earning part and don't forget Eve is a game and it should be fun to play.
Also notice that all of my proposals involve interaction with other players. It doesn't mean you have to talk with everybody but if you do some nice things can happen. Because against common view most of players are nice and will help you if you don't approach them with sh!thead attitude. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

There's nothing wrong with mining as an activity. It's a slow, steady reliable income source.
Yes it's repetitive, and boring (for some people), others find it relaxing and enjoyable ... But missions, Incursions, FW Farming, Nul-sec Complexing are all just as repetitive if that's all you do.
Does your current corp run mining ops with Orca boosts ? If they don't why did you join ? If they do, why aren't you joining in ?
EVE is a game, play to have fun.
Did you complete all 5 tutorials ? If so, which arcs did you enjoy the most ? If not, I'd recommend that you go back to the UC station and finish them.
Those arcs you enjoyed .... those are the career paths in eve that I would recommend that you follow, if you enjoy something your more likely to have fun doing it. |

Well, it's been said before, but the "permit" thing is nothing but an extortion scheme which doesn't buy you much of anything in the way of protection, as many gankers are independent of the organized miner-bumpers, who, by the way, reserve the right to gank you anyway if you fail to follow the terms of their "code", and won't protect you from anyone else.
Mining is far from the most lucrative profession in EVE, but it's also the first lead-in to more advanced manufacturing, which can be a highly profitable endeavour, especially when you start dealing with Tech-II equipment.
And it makes for a nice fall-back strategy to get back on your feet if your more ambitious undertakings flame out due to power politics or burnout or simple horrible luck. I keep some mining equipment handy in a backwater myself, just in case. Well it depends upon what interests you in the game. If you're into hs missoning, well you dont really need all that much isk as you should never lose a mission boat to pve rats and you will only lose a mission boat to hs pvp if you make the mistake of blinging it out. If you're into pvp and fly small ships well when you lose them, it doesnt take all that much isk to replace them. Of course if you're into flying bigger pvp ships and eventually bling pvp ships well then you will have to find an isk activity that supports it - my own personal source of isk is blowing up haulers to get at their juicy middle. I supplement this this with running ded sites occasionally and various sources of passive income such as PI . Don't let the naysayers scare you off of mining if you enjoy it. I for one, find it kinda zen like - perfect for a second account semi afk activity.
I should add that the fastest way for a new player to make isk is scamming and market pvp. In fact, market pvp is probably the most profitable of any activity in the game. I personally don't do any of that though as monitoring spread sheets seems too close to rl work then I want from my online entertainment. I don't play, I just fourm warrior. |

I started 6 months ago and put some points into mining. Here is my old skill plan
Ship> Retriever
Goto the market and search for this. Once you find it right click it and then click on > show info > prerequisites. It shall tell you what skill you need to fly this ship.
I think it should take around a week, fit a modulated strip miner, mining laser upgrade and a survey scanner.
Skill up for modulated strip miner II and mining laser upgrade II. Again search in the market and right click > show info > prerequisites.
Also choose one type of ore, I chose Pyroxeres and skill up for the mining crystal II which increase the yield from the strip miner.
At this point you should be able to mine and refine at an okay level for a noob. You can also achieve 100% refine rate by maxing out Pyroxeres Processing V and running missions to get a standing of 6.67.
The UI is kinda clunky, it's a mix of windows 3.1 and win 95, but once you get used to it, it's fine.

Forgot to address your skilling query ..
Get either EFT or pyfa and Evemon or just evehq
evemon & evehq will let you browse all the skills eft, pyfa & evehq will let you browse all the modules and ships ===============================================
the ship skills
Mining Frigate Mining Barge Exhumers
then check the skill requirements for the following modules (Both tech 1 and 2)
Mining Laser Upgrade Mining laser Modulated Strip Miner [xyz] Mining Crystal Damage Control 5x Hobgoblin or Hammerhead
then you want the skills that directly increase, or reduce a modules usage/application, of the following ship attributes
Powergrid CPU Capacitor Shield Amount Shield Recharge Armour Amount Propulsion Speed
nb these aren't the only modules and skills you'll need, but they will give you a decent start on them. |
