why aren't there any dmg mods for missiles btw ? if those were inplemented it could make missiles better too
or other stuff that has some impact on missiles for turrets you got all kind off thinks... you got stuff you do more dmg better ROF better tracking better range... ETC.
we got totally NOTHING for missiles to boost them up (as far as my memory goes...)

Realistically you couldn't have any that boost damage, but you could have ones that boost ROF.
Also a possibility is special missiles from Pirate loot... --------

Edited by: Zyrla Bladestorm on 30/08/2003 13:40:20 well some current day missiles use ground or air tracking stations to help them find and track targets .. it might not be that unrealistic if a module fitted to a ship helped guide missiles to weaker points on a target (thus more damage)
still either way I think there should be modules that can help missiles, wether they do damage/RoF as the other types, just shorten the RoF more or perhaps some other function (increased ammo capacity on launchers so they could hold more/bigger missiles and launch them faster ?) it is mildly unfair without something . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

At present, the only thing that will assist missiles is skill training. What I want to see is genuine "cruise missiles" You fire a cruise now and if the target is anywhere near an asteroid, guess what the missile hits instead of it's intended target. Those puppies should steer around all obstacles except their intended target. The hit bubble around asteroids must be huge as I have fired a cruise thinking that I had a clear shot only to see the damned thing explode against nothing! and destroying a full cargo can in the process.

I know that on the Raven, the Caldari get a boost in launcher speed, and you can train the cruise missile skill up to get more damage.
I am not sure about the other ships.

Cruise Missile skill does not give any bonus at the moment!
It should give +5% damage bonus, but it does not.
It's bugged and should be easy to fix. I hope they will fix it soon.
I trained my Cruise Missile skill on LVL5, and did a lot of testing. For now I'm pretty annoyed I can't use my Cruise Missile skill LVL5 advantage

Realistically a cruise missile can cause far more damage than any gun i know of, in RL they can carry a nuclear warhead ! So why can't they have Dmg and ROF modifiers in the GAME. Missiles continue to be the poor relation compared to turrets and they should be the most feared weapon in the game. in RL a single missile can sink a cruiser or even a bigger ship as can a few torpedos so realism and missiles are not part of the game. i know TomB is workin on missiles on chaos but see no game reason for not havin dmg mod's for them

I think the biggest problem with missiles are the are too slow. The battle is usually over before they reach the target. Or maybe guns are too powerfull.

I have another idea though that I haven't seen anyone else mention (though I admit I only did a quick scan). I think there should be more missile skills. Turrets have all kinds of different skills to boost damage, ROF, range, etc (Surgical Strike, Rapid Firing, Sharpshooter, etc). Why can't missiles have the same? Why is it that we can make heavy missiles faster but not do more damage, and we can make cruiser missiles do more damage but not faster?
Also, at the moment, cruise missiles have about the same range as heavy missiles. If they're going to be called cruise missiles, I'd expect them to be effective from a much greater distance. And rockets are completely useless. Their range is just a few kilometers, and they rarely hit their target even if it's in range. It'd also be nice if the rocket launcher could carry more than 3 rockets; maybe 12. Then you could unleash a barrage of rockets (which doesn't seem unbalanced to me since they only do 30 damage each) like an Apache. That would make ships like the Kestrel great for supporting a larger force, yet still vulnerable alone. I read somewhere above that TomB is working on missiles on the Chaos server. I'll take a look at that some time soon hopefully. |
