So a mission that gives you an implant that you can sell for usually 20--25 mill and requires you to buy minerals that some helpful trader preplaced into the station and thus doesn't even involve undocking hurts you how? The only 2 scenarios i see where this could be annoying.
1. You found the only high sec station with storyline agents that doesn't have a ton of the correct ore.
Proposed solution. Buy a ton of that ore and get red frog or the public hauler channel peeps to haul it there for you. Keep some for yourself but put the rest on sell order for 25% more than you bought it for.
2. you do missions in low sec. I had to get my alt (wait am i allowed to admit i have alts) down in a venture and it was annoying. I tried the market thing but as no one missions in low sec no one ever bought it. i think that ore is still sitting in that station.
I do realise i could buy the ore cheaper and haul it every time but seriously the mission takes seconds, is very profitable and the slight increase in profit from buying from a hub and hauling it will never be fun and won't happen unless the traders try and gouge an obscene amount. I love this mission. Drop a load of ore at the station, and keep using that into the future. It's one of my favorite storyline missions because of how fast it i -- less than a minute for the whole thing.
I thing the standing gains are well inn line for the effort, though I do get annoyed if I have it back-to-back multiple times. Ransoms are accepted in Isk, Ships, Mods, and Dolls. |

99.9999999999999999999 % of the time, the ore, it's never minerals, are right there in Station for sale.

I'm pretty sure this used to be a mining mission and years and years ago when they changed all the mining mission ores to :worthless: they simply forgot this one. The faction standing reward would be a lot different if you had to mine out 9,000 cubes of Banidine. |

It's Omber for L3, Kernite for L4, Veldspar for L1. I don't remember the L2 ore, though.
Anyway, I like this storyline, because I can sell a +4 implant and it almost doesn't hurt my derived standings. |

I thought that MfW only happened with courier and research missions for which it is perfectly suited. To be honest, there should be more like it for the non-combat, standings grinders.
That said, I have to admit I haven't run a combat mission in at least five years, but I still can't recall getting many (if any) of them back then.
In any case, I feel you are really digging deep for something to complain about in starting this thread.

There aren't enough storyline missions to be able to give missions suited to that capsuleer's play style. Thus someone running L3 courier missions will end up with a 10-part courier/trade/combat mission sequence, an ore delivery mission, and so forth.
Mr Epeen wrote:In any case, I feel you are really digging deep for something to complain about in starting this thread.
You try raising the standings of a new character to 7+ with a chosen faction when all you get is MfWP. Since you get a much smaller standings gain from this mission compared to others, it really puts a dampener on progress Day 0 advice for new players: Day 0 Advice for New Players |

This is a ridiculous mission. You'd hope storyline missions would be more difficult or entertaining, but this one? Too simple, too boring, too easy. Of course I like getting it, because it's so easy. But it's not right.
Missions need an overhaul. All of them. This is only one of many problems. |

To get the standings for zero waste/clones/taxbreaks/L4 missions, you do some other unrelated service for the NPC entity in question. The actual mechanism is less important GÇö bribery, tags, mandatory FW service, R&D-like flat timesinkGǪ the options are endless. I have bad standings with Min and Gal because as a newbie, I didn't know how missions were affecting my standings with empire factions. They never tell you about the standings losses nor the consequences.
So I guess I can do level one missions for a few weeks to repair them. If I can ever be bothered.
Newbies are directed right into missions by the tutorial structure and then the SoE arc. But level one/two/three (four) missions are soooo boring for a newbie. Have you read comments about EVE on gamers' forums and all that? A ton of them are a variant of 'EVE is so boring, you do a mission and then do another one, you never see anyone. Solo MMO lol'. I wonder how many subs EVE has thrown away by pushing newbies into the terrible PVE? |

Tippia wrote:Why not just decouple missions from the standings grind?
Having a certain amount of "make work" to do means fewer people will have the standings, which means having the standings becomes a valuable trade advantage. Always assume players have far more money than you can imagine: any attempt to restrict entry into some venue (in this case, high standings) through resource consumption will just lead players to discover ways to multiply the resources they have. If it can be bought with ISK, assume an infinite supply of ISK.
Standings for tags could work since the tags are a first-order proxy for hours of NPC grinding.
At some point, making it easier to get standings reduces the value of those standings. I guess the L4 MfWP is a way for CCP to tell players, "no, you can't have your extremely profitable L4 missions and have your standings gains too!" Standings for tags would bypass this regulator function of the mission reward scaling system.
So for standings, go back to L3 courier missions in blockade runners :)
See, solved my own problem by sleeping on it for a day.
