I was watching the superbowl and the good people at gillette have come out with a new razor with 5 blades. now I thought my mach 3 was pretty good. but 5 blades that must be awsome, plus with a extra blade on the top for the hard to reach places or whatever. Thinking of all those blades I remembered the last time I cut myself shaving. It was as if I was riding my bike and I took a nose dive into the pavement. I cringe to think what 5 could do. btw were can I buy one of these? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RIP Kevin Wessel, Age 20, Departed April 19 2005, Baghdad

After the Mach 3 came out I remember reading an article in time or a newspaper, and some guy for that company mentioned no, we aren't doing 4 blades. Everyone expects it, so we're going with 5". It reminds me of the Mad-TV sketch with the 26 bladed razor... "blade 9 shaves away bone while blade 10 reshapes the disfigured chinbone.." On the commercial for the mach3 loads of jet fighters flew across the guys face when he shaved. I wanted jets to fly over my face when I shaved as well so I bought one. I'll definatly get this new one if it does something good enough on the commercial. If it has tiny army of ninjas that jump out of the razor and cut down the hairs as they beg for mercy I'll buy 2.

Edited by: Angaro on 07/02/2006 10:00:47 I'm still using old fashioned 2-blades Gilette Sensor stuff. It works... and I still have some cash left for beer (admittedly, I only shave once every two weeks or so) In the future people will be buying 25-diamond-blades razors. They will be $50 a piece (But shave oh so much better than those laughable 16 blades we were using the year before, lol. What were we thinking? )

I shave my head pretty regular and found out that my wife's Venus leg razor was far better than any dude razor. A normal razor will clog up in like one stroke and the leg razor can do your whole head without getting clogged. Now I just use it to do my face to because it's handy. The problem is with such space between the blades and the fact I like to shave my head on a Saturday afternoon before I go to the pub and I have already got a few ciders in me it means you can end up doing this: Razor's are fun! I had to pick a piece of skin about the size of a 2p out of the blades and it stung like crazy. Lanfear's Bane.

Personally, I stopped using my Gillette Mach 2 (or whatever they call the 2-bladed) one about a year ago, when my wife bought me one of those Phillishave Cool Skin's. King of Shaves Oil and Gel used to be amazing with a razor though. And I agree, an electric razor doesn't come anywhere near the quality of a bladed one; I still occasionally use a bladed razor when I know I need to look fresh.Consider your sig tainted, and all your alcohol stolen - Wrangler Beer=Beer+3

wow, a 5 bladed razor? forgive me for not getting overly excited, but what exactly do the extra blades do that a single (or 'standard' double) can't? I use the Gilette sensor excel! (w00t! for M$ shaving products;). it has two blades and a strip of white goo that's only 'works' (whatever it does) on the first shave. every morning i have a shave, and every morning there is little/no stubble left. the blades are cheaper, much *much* cheaper and do the same job. i tried the mach 3 when i got one free in the post, and wasn't impressed, whilst it did shave close it was no different than before, except i'd feel lighter in the pocket (had i bought additional blades). for those lazy days (when i get up late for work) i bought myself a braun somethingorother electric razor. it's OK, and does a good job but nothing beats a wet shave with a razor (i'd buy a cutthroat, but alas, i'd *never* get to work!) _____________________________________The zenith of hypocrisy.

Edited by: Admiral Pieg on 08/02/2006 02:08:49 ive been shaving with an electric phillips since i hit puberty about 6 years ago, but my skin is rather sensitive nowadays and like you guys say, it simply doesnt shave close enough. I was hoping maybe you could give me some advice on shaving with a razor. For instance, do you use the shaving cream that comes with the mach3 razors (that blue jelly-stuff)? Also, after you have shaved do you wash your face before applying aftershave or are you supposed to just wipe the remaining shaving cream off before applying aftershave? Edit: Another thing, could you give me some pointers on how to shave my chin, what direction and such. The razor always gets "stuck" and i get afraid of cutting myself. And the upperlip(moustache area), do you shave upwards towards the nose or downwards? I cant get a close enough shave if i shave downwards but when i shave upwards i cut myself pretty bad. ______________ Pod from above.

I've got skin you can peal thumbnail sized chunks off of on a regular basis. What I use is the Bic sensitive skin disposables, and shave in the shower with soap. I tend to use Ivory, because its abut the only soap my skin doesn't react (badly) with. Soak you face in the shower, lather it up, shave, then wash it off again. I find it works quite well. Just be sure to check in the mirror for missed spots. It's easy to miss a little when you're shaving by feel. Harry Voyager ____________________ I'm not an idiot; I just play one on the forums.

Some sensible shaving advice for Admiral Pieg? I'll see what I can offer. I have tough bristle and relatively sensitive skin. I use dual blade disposables with a fixed (non-swivel) blade-head. I've tried all sorts of fancy manual and electric shavers but the simple two blade disposables offer me the closest shave. I use each blade for 1 week and then throw it out. The swivel head blades reduce the amount of control I have over the blade and don't shave close enough for me.*This is the important bit* I do not use shaving cream or gel (neither has ever given me a close shave). I use shaving oil (the brand I use is Somersets Shaving Oil but there are other brands out there). Wet your hands and face with warm to hot water, then apply 3 drops into one palm and rub your hands briefly together before rubbing the oil into your face. Let it soak into the bristle for 30 seconds before shaving. This is the ONLY way I can get a close shave (and it works very well for me).My answers to Admiral Pieg's questions: "... do you use the shaving cream that comes with the mach3 razors (that blue jelly-stuff)?" Try the shaving oil (but make sure you let it soak in for 30 seconds). If you use gel or cream, you should also let that sit for a bit before shaving."Also, after you have shaved do you wash your face before applying aftershave or are you supposed to just wipe the remaining shaving cream off before applying aftershave?" Rinse off the cream, gel or oil with COLD water then apply after-shave. If you wait a little while and let your skin cool (helped along with cold water) the pores tighten and then it won't hurt as much to apply after-shave. (Avoid soap on your face right after shaving as that hurts too.)"... could you give me some pointers on how to shave my chin, what direction and such ... etc" Shave with the grain (the same direction in which the bristle grows) on first pass and then, if it isn't close enough, shave against the gain lightly. Change the angle and direction of the razor rather than pressing the razor harder into your face! eg on your upperlip, shave downward first pass, then shave horizontally and, if needed, shave upward last. Same principle for your chin."The razor always gets "stuck"" Yeah, I used to have this problem. A few things to stop this. (1) Use a sharp blade. This means throwing out your old blades. Mine last about 1 week. (2) Try the shaving oil (make sure you let it soak into the bristle to soften it). (3) Try shaving after your morning shower. The hot water and steam also helps to soften the bristle. Well that works for me. I hope some of that helps someone. I think of all the pain and cuts I could have avoided down the years if my dad had shown me what the heck to do rather than my trusting to dumb luck and blundering along!

Me, I still prefer the bag of 20 Bic single blade razors for $4.99. Someone do a test for me, one of the Triple Blade guys. Go buy the 5 pack (yellow) Bic single blade. And then tell me how it shaves. I have to say you guys have bought into the gimmic. And yes I was the first to go out and buy the double blades and then the triples (Mach3). (Or for some reason get them as presents. ) They all went into the garbage after about 2 weeks. Nothing shaves smoother or closer than a single blade..not even that razor that shoots goo. There's a reason they still make single blade razors...its for those of us that took a bite out of that big BS sandwich and decided we didnt like it.

Meh, I use whatever is cheapest. Just shave in the shower and you don't need any of that oil / creeme / gel at all. When I want it close I just press really hard, with a face as ugly as mine it's not like I got anything to lose. Hell a good scar might make me look more "dashing" or some such nonsense to the ladies.

All this talk of shaving reminds me of a world record I read a few weeks ago. Most Faces Shaved In One Hour Tom Rodden of Chatham, Kent, England, shaved 278 brave volunteers in 60 minutes with a cutthroat razor on November 10, 1993, for the BBC Record Breakers program, averaging 12.9 seconds per face. He drew blood seven times. Tom worked as a hairdresser since the age of 18. I wonder how much blood he drew? http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/content_pages/record.asp?recordid=48797
