As a new player with some problems I'd like to know what the proper terms for my pain are.
Once I log on my FPS starts at @ 25-30, but fairly quickly, 30 - 60 minutes, drops to @ 5 or less! Meanwhile my available RAM drops from @ 250 to 0! At this point, I'm locked solid and have to Ctrl-Q out. This I assume is the memory leak.
I have Cacheman and FreeRam running, it may not be clever to have both running at the same time. My FPS graph is like a sine wave, up and down and up etc. I'm guessing this reflects RAM being freed. However, the trend is always downward and sooner or later I'm at .5 FPS.
But other times, usually when the FPS is getting low but not always, the system just freezes for a minute or two, then resumes. Is that Lag?
And if I'm frozen in Lag, is everyone else also or am I a frozen sitting duck?
Not happy, but at least I can know what I'm cussing at.

Edited by: Arkanor on 07/02/2006 01:23:03 Edited by: Arkanor on 07/02/2006 01:16:50 Random drops in FPS are not synonomous (SP?) with lag.
Lag is the latency in network connections, it can/will result in: Extended refresh time for market windows, longer appearance time for menus, more time to undock/dock or communicate with the game (drive your ship, interact with agents, etc.)
While Eve is not a very demanding game, if your motherboard has a shared graphics setup, your RAM is probably being all used up for textures and caching of some graphics, the slowdown could be the times that your computer has to access the hard drive (very slow by comparison) to replicate ram (virtual memory.) Unfortunately, if you do not have a video card then it is placing extra strain on your memory, using your memory to emulate video memory (which is much faster than normal memory by default.)
With only 250megs on your machine, if you have no video card you are taking a double-whammy.

Actually I have 512 RAM and a nVidia 6200 with 256 RAM. The 250 was the free RAM showing with EVE loaded and running - at first.
As it is it is almost unplayable, and that is just mining. Obviously something isn't right somewher.

also having similar problem, I read in chat that there is a network 2.0 patch that has fixed this issue for some but I have not been able to find such a patch on the eve site. I would like to not have to restart every time it gets "laggy" Also it only shows that the game is using normal memory but windows task manager indicates that almost all of my 512MB of ram are being used up. Video settings seem to have NO effect on this. I also have a seperate 128MB Nvidia card with current drivers.

Most of the Geforce 6200 series are Turbocache, which means it uses 192MB of system memory as video memory to get the 256MB figure. This would explain your issues as youre only operating on 256MB of actual system memory.

The game uses 400MB of memory under normal conditions at high settings, either drop down your setting or toss in another 512MB of memory (its dirt cheap right now, $60 ish for PC3200 DDR)

i had some problems running eve with 512mb. after ~2 hours the framerate dropped, game became laggy and i had to restart.
on another machine with 1gig i had to restart every ~5 hours.
now i'm using 2gigs and everything's fine (but the memleak is still there, just bought me some more time)

You are talking about Microsoft .NET Framework version 2. You have to go to www.microsoft.com and track it down as a download.

I'm having this problem as well, and I have 2gb of ram running in dual channel @ 1T plus 2 7800gt in SLi.
My pagefile creeps up gradually to 1gb and then I have to reboot.
Wish they would fix this...poor coding. The game doesn't even make much use of video cards FFS

I'v a similiar problem. After a few hours playing the UI starts to get slugish, the result to jump to one gate in sec space could freeze my entire screen for like 30-45 Sec and The HD reading like nuts. I'v a Ti4200 Gf4 and 512mb ram and aprox a 2g processor. I can be in a 100+ fleetbattle with a low fps but it's still playable.

I'm suffering from the same. Living in 0.0, the only time I suffer from serverside lag is during fleet battles etc. That lag you can live with. However, the client leak is making the game unplayable. So far I've not been in a position where it cost me my ship, but that will be just a matter of time. From what I understand, the server side upgrades will cure serverside lag. What is being done to address the client lag?
