For too long we have suffered from short and lousy facial hair.
What I suggest is, that the older a character is, the longer and more majestic beards that character can wield.
Something along these lines:

I always wanted my character to look as old as possible, but sadly I got stuck with this little grey stubble and short hair. I support this 100%. I basically want to look like a wizard. |

I always support more customisation to avatars so everyone can actually look different. We're clones yes but not of each other...
