If I buy a clone with more skill points than I currently have, does it keep up with me? e.g. I have 42,000 skill points, I buy a 60,000 clone. Will that clone stay current up to the point I get 60,000 skill points or will I simply return to the 42,000 mark when I die since that is what I had when I bought the clone? Am I wasting money buying a higher clone than I need, or can I forget about clones for a while if I buy one with a nice fat skill potential?
Thanks, CJay

Your clone should keep you at whatever your current skill level is (as long as the clone level can handle that many points). Buying more skill level and 'growing into' the clone level is an option, but an expensive one if you end up getting podded and needing a new clone.

If you plan on being careful and avoiding low sec you can get away with buying a clone with 2-5 times as many skill points as you have. So when you hit 60,000 SP for instance, go ahead and buy a clone that can hold say 1.2 million maybe. They are still pretty cheap and you won't have to worry about upgrading for a while.
Remember, only players can pod kill, so no need to get a new clone when NPCs kill you. -- Lil Miner |

If your pod is destroyed, and your clone's SP rating is greater than your current SP ... then you retain 100% of your SP. If at any time your current SP is greater than that of your Clone, you will lose the difference in SP.
Like Ky said ... just buy a nice big clone, they're cheap, and until you start frequenting areas where your pod is at-risk it'll keep you from forgetting to update it.
Going by small increments could be disasterous if you space it out whilst hanging about in Empire! Get podded unexpectedly and find yourself a week shy of SP because you hadn't given a second though to your clone in a while.
I don't think I'd ever want a ship popped in low-sec space and have to think, "oh ****, did I upgrade my clone???"

On a similar note.. Is there a list somewhere on the eve site that gives the SP values of the various classes of clones? I think I found it once before, but I really can't remember.
