Edited by: Caleb Paine on 10/02/2006 15:49:33 EVE is much like the real world, it's an unwritten piece of paper and you get to write your own story. There is no other MMO out there that has more to do with interactions with others than EVE. EVE is about YOU, and that 'you' will change and grow depending on what you do and how your deal with others. In this game you can be anything; a farmer, mission runner, miner, crafter, hunter, leader, pirate, scammer, PvPer, warlord. Each of that profession is ok but it's all about how you deal with others and thus how they percieve you.
If you are a solo type player you'll have a lot of trouble getting anywhere, simply because everything you do will need recources, information and good standings with others. The beauty of this game is that in time, you can do everything mentioned before, with one character. A PvP type person can also become a producer. A miner can also become a fleetcommander. It has everything to do with capabilities and social interaction.
So your question of "how to take my next step" is, however understandable and obvious, not THAT important, it's important RIGHT NOW, but it's the easiest puzzle to solve, simply ask any questions you have. Either here, or in the ingame help channel or the EVE University channel. If you interact in a normal, constructive way you'll find a whole lot of people willing to help you out.
The thing is, for everything you'll do later on you'll need cash, a way to make an income. For now, the easiest way to make money is to either mine or do missions. They don't take a lot of skills or equipment and after a while it'll become so boringly easy you can do it semi AFK while doing other stuff, like reading/talking about the game with others :) All you need to know about doing missions or mining is covered in the tutorial (basically). The extra info on shiptypes, modules, tactics information you can get in the channels I stated earlier or you can evemail me with questions.
The thing about EVE is that it won't hold your hand nor will it push you in a direction. This way of doing things is daunting at first and the learning curve is very steep, but the game is very worth it.
Essentially the universe is yours, be all you can be :)
After this shameless plug (Thanks for the bribe Oveur), if you have questions, just evemail me. You'll get some good answers you can actually use.
