I want to be able to write my name on a planet :-P
No but seriously think about it. You could terraform a planet and then populate it with your 'passengers' or 'pilgrims' who then work for your corp!!!!
You would then be able to contruct a station or two on the planet surface (works the same as orbit stations) except cheaper.
"Hello Captain Talhlia. The citizens of Talhliaia has mined 10000 Omber while you where gone. The factories on the planet are busily working on building a new 'Mayflower' to populate Planet V in this system..."
You guys get the idea. The owner of the planet could right click and 'manage' the planet and its resources/facilities/people.

Oh when you terraform a planet the model changes to one similar to earth.
Also only certain planets, those within the 'life ring' around a certain stars can be terriformed - for this you would need a Science based skill to determine that.

Not a bad idea, hopefully in the future planets will be used and wont just be "anchor points" for PC stations.

Yep Silmarien. It would add a new dimension into the usefulness of planets.
Remember also that they are planning on having planetary miners in orbiting stations too!!!

Any terraforming in this game will be a major CCP controlled event as it's a matter of prime fiction and planets as oppossed to asteroids aren't in an endless supply.
Player owned stations first, then planetside bases and way down the line terraforming...

And once you implement that, you should also then implement a combat element like boarding a station with a cargo hold full of blood thirsty marines, or bombarding a planet then sending down landing craft. Hmm sounds like a new dimension on Masters of Orion game series.
