From teh news, just incase you haven't read it.
"PLACID. A planet-wide explosion devastated the surface of Reschard V earlier this morning.
The source of the explosion is for the moment unknown. A preliminary CONCORD report mentions system-wide scanners picking up the signature of a Capital-class sized vessel in low orbit over Reschard V in the minutes prior to the explosion; electromagnetic radiation saturated all readings afterwards.
A second on-site report from the Servant Sisters of EVE a few hours later includes a preliminary estimate of 88.7% extinction of surface life forms. "Detailed measurements are almost impossible to carry out for the moment," said Dailla Semar, SoE spokeperson at their Sanctuary in Pure Blind, "but it seems to be clear that the explosion, whatever the source, was of planetary magnitude. We are facing almost full polar cap meltdown, and the planet is enshrouded in a planet-wide electrical storm making visual contact with the surface impossible at this time."
Survival rate predictions among the population are on the order of the one per fifty thousand. "Along with our preliminary estimate of life form extinction, we expect sea level to have risen, covering at least two thirds of the existing landmass, the remaining surface being largely scorched. Salvage teams will be deployed as soon as the atmospheric conditions allow. We are mobilizing all our available vessels and resources to the task." Ms. Semar declined to comment on the origin of the explosion, and whether or not it could have been an attack, indicating that this was a matter for law enforcement agencies.
Federation officials, already facing criticism for arriving on the scene after the SoE teams, requested that the population remain calm until more information became available on the subject. "The only two facts for the moment are that there has been a planetary cataclysm inside the Federation, and that our priority is to help whoever might have survived," said Thuire Dercoucon, Chief Coordinator of Public Relations for President Souro Foiritan. "We are shocked by this terrible news and will spare no effort in the salvaging tasks."
Being a mostly agricultural colony with no military presence or tactical value, Reschard V seems to have no reason for being chosen as a target. Regardless, the Intaki population all across Placid is in turmoil for what many have already labelled as a terrorist attack to a peaceful Intaki settlement.
Witnesses report a mobilization of Caldari Navy vessels along the borders between Placid and The Citadel. No CalNav official comunication has either confirmed or denied this fact. "
If you read the Chrons you will find the one about the rumored Jovian Super weapon that can destroy worlds.
A Capital ship was detected nearby before the explosion. What if the joves are testing there superweapon before there invasion of the empires?!

What do the Jovians have to do with some loser captain playing golf on the command deck of a dreadnought and hitting a ball into the doomsday device control panel?

Let's resume the facts.
A: planet ripped.... a capital size ship located near it (all empires got one )
B: electromagnetic radiation saturated (hmm it's there any titan that his doomsday uses that kind of dmg?)
C: Check what empires are closer then to such location
D: joves superweapon? Read the chronicle about the ammar and jove battle, they actually got a weapon able to rip with a single shot any Bs ( in their motherships!!!!)so wonder what kind of device they can put up on a titan.
Btw jovians will not prepare a war against us not until we rippe each otherafter the factional warfare, ya know is easy beat a weak one. -------------------Sig----------------------- S.S.E. currently recruiting new players. Acces to low sec, minning contracts and crazy girls*

It had to have been the Blood Raiders. I've had to stop tons of their haulers with loads of viral agents before. I think they figured out that big superweapons are a much more effective way to go about crazy genocidal plots. _________________________________________________________

Imo its just the first non-empire titan testing its doomsday weapon. Though whoever would do that to all of those people is insane and must be delt with.

IIRC, the 3 Jove Motherships are in fact Titan-Class vessels, the 'Mothership' part is simply part of their name, because that is the function they fulfil.

You remember correctly Proof
Back on topic: The Jovians couldn¦t have done it. They¦re allies of the Caldari State and i can¦remember which chronicle it was but i believe one of them talks about some/many intaki sympathising with us. And who could possibly think the jove would a ttack a friend¦s friend? They¦re not heartless creatures. Come to think of it not entirely sure about that, being genetically engineered and all.

Fun Fact: "Joves" is only a few letters away from "Jews". Combine that with the fact that both get scapegoated constantly for whatever goes wrong and you have what either amounts to a really really interesting coincidence or trenchant social commentary by CCP.

Bleh, they cheated. Those weapons were specifically tailored to hurt Amarr ships. Couldn't face up to us in a fair fight

Look back a few news articles and we find a story about the Serpentis corporation stealing a titan. So thats a pirate faction specifically aligned against the federation with a titan......... Nope doesn't mean anything to me either.

Hardly. They have business dealings with the Caldari, and probably with others. That doesn't make them allies. Read the new novella, the Jove were manipulating everyone, they destroyed an Apostle Council ship, and made it look like a nearby Gallente ship did it, so that when the Amarr rescue ships showed up, they'd attack the Gallente ship, which would then **** off the Gallente, etc., etc.

The Prophecy of Macaper
“the appetite of nothing expands over the world”
Still to look forward to in the apocalypse:
“the little brother makes the final sorrowful steps home; he is not welcome” “what was many now becomes one when one becomes four” “return of the dark light from the heart of the mother”
Any guesses on what these mean?

erm... I don't know who did it, but I might know why... and if I'm guessing correctly, there will be more planets blowing up...
from the new achura (caldari) bloodline description on sisi:
Originally by: achura description but the recent sacrilege of their home world prompted them to take to the skies in greater numbers.
now... I haven't found much news about the saisio system they life in (and probably have their homeplanet in) and defenitly nothing relating to a sacrilige of their home world, so I'm guessing that what happend on Reschard V will soon be followed by more trouble, on other planets... ---

That is quite an interesting theory. But when it says the apettite of nothing expands over a world it makes me think of an antimatter weapon or a blackhole.

A Statement from the Hypherians.
We have always known this day would come. We have warned the Caldari state and the Caldari Navy but so far we have had no response.
We know atleast the Caldari know what has happend, we informed them, but they would not listen.
Yes, we are small. No, we don't have the resources to complete our task ourselves. This is a cry for help. Help us and help save the EVE-universe as we know it.

Could this be the prelude to the war that's coming? Not old enemies against eachother like everyone assumed so far, but a grizzly waking from its hibernation? Have the Jove been silently planning and preparing to take back all of EVE's space because they don't approve of how the races have developed?

This is quite powerfull weapon. Titan weaponary today couldn't par with such level of annihilation. Even though Titan's doomsday device could obliterate anything in it's blast range, but this one is far greater magnitude. You probably need 2-3 Titans for planetary bombardment to be able to wipe out 88.7% surface lifeform and cause weather distortion this large.
