Has anyone else thought about the idea of a very slow spiraling galaxy? The link above shows what it would be like over a very long time. Obviously for this game, it would need to happen much faster.
In no way do I expect something like this anytime soon. It would be a huge game changer for everyone. I was just wanting to pick everyone's brain on how something like this could work. How would sov handle this and FW? How slow/fast should it go? The main principle being that the inner most stars rotate much faster than the outer most. How would gates work?
Again, don't hurt yourself too much or rage while hitting the reply button. This is just to gather some ideas and thoughts on the matter. |

the inward progression of your offered model is too unrealistically fast... even if the spin is slowed it's unrealistic. Real galaxies change very slowly unless there is a cataclysm like collision with another. my feeling is this phenomina is so slow as to be relevant in our space experiance. Taking a real life example - our sun has an orbital period of 220 million years, give or take. Which means that, in the past 8 years since Eve was released, the sun has completed less than one half of one millionth of 1% of it's current orbit.
In order for the effects to even be noticeable, you would have to speed up the orbital rotations to such a point that the cluster would fling itrself apart.
On the scales that humans live and operate under, are simply too small to account for this type of movement in game. Unsub or don't.-á I don't care what your reasons are, and neither does anyone else.-á Just click the button and go away - or don't. |

Our own galaxy revolves at about 1 rotation per 250.000.000 years. To see it revolve once would require you to have a displacement of 250m ly. compare it to the distance of Andromeda of 2.5m ly and the diameter of our own galaxy of "only" 100.000 ly. The displacement needed to see such galaxy rotate would be 2500 times our milky way's diameter!
Note: to see things as they are 1 year later or earlier requires you to be exactly 1 ly closer or further from the viewed object. So Planetary systems would still not work even if on warpspeeds of 6AU/s or 13.5 AU/s. Even traversing the largest systems would only show a difference of about 1 day. |

I updated the OP to clarify a bit more on the spiral speed.
I know some of you like to go all hard core science fact posting, but this is a game and there is far more mechanics that spit in science's face than those that follow science rules and physics. So please have a more open mind.
So besides it not being realistic in time frame, what are your thoughts? |

Why? What would it actually add to Eve other than confusion over how to get from one point to another? |

don't change your OP except with a clear ADDED to clearify.
I heard some good news about a coming feature where space will be more (multi-spectrum) space and less easy decor. Of what i've seen and heard about it, i loved it.. can't remember if its this winter patch though.
But with your idea, no doubt there are as well plenty of others CCP has thought about of either adding, or leaving out with them working on it now.
cheers, |
