I am looking to buy a dell c640 with a 32meg video card, 256 megs of ram and a `.3ghz cpu. If anyone owns(ed) this laptop, do you know if eve will run on it? I know I will have to run at 1024x768 but is it playable?

Sadly, I doubt that will work very well at all.
I guess if you want to render lots of still shots of EVE, it'd be great

I run it on a C640 2.4 P4m 512 MB ram and the 32 MB video card. I don't do any combat with it I just do stuff in station and maybe move ships around between stations in High sec systems.

I run EVE on a Dell Inspiron 8600 with a 128mb graphics card and 1GB of RAM, and it works just fine. But a 32mb graphics card might be pushing it, I'd say. And at least 512mb of RAM would be helpful too.
Playable? perhaps the right word would be "runable"...
Either way, you'd probably be better off to invest the money you spend on the laptop and get a slightly better desktop for the same amount of money instead.
Good luck with your selection.

I run Eve quite well on a Dell D600 Latitude (1.3 GhZ, 512 Mb, 32mb Card. The trick is keeping the laptop from overheating, otherwise you lagg out big time. I prop my laptop up on 4 CD cases at the corners and then have a fan (angled downward) blowing at the gap underneath. Its ghetto, but it works like a charm.

My girlfriend has a Toshiba Satellite P4 2.4Ghz 512MB RAM 32MB integrated (not dedicated) graphics and it runs like, umm..... poo.
Let's just say char portraits don't turn out right at all, planets with rings have, umm... bigass squares for rings, and stations are one solid color.
And it gets about 4 fps. ----- I want my sig h4xx0r3d by Oveur! ...but I'll settle for any mod since Oveur can't h4x like the best of 'em... |
