Hey all! Having went from CS->SB->SWG->CoH->EQ2->WoW->CoV->EVE, I am happy to say I have found the most addictive game yet...
The lack of levels is really refreshing, and the idea of skills running on timers is brilliant, in any MMO, gaining skills = time spent, EVE just takes this literally! Wow!!!(not as in the game)
The reason I am more hopelessly addicted to this game is because of the socialization that occurs in this massive universe... I haven't seen a society weaved together like this since SWG, but this is much more hardcore than SWG ever was...
A very nice player took me into his newly formed corporation and I am learning the ways of a veteran pirate, and this is much fun... Attaining new ships, running missions and learning the ways of a pirate leave me craving for more... I look forward to ransoming some miners and being just as notorious and nefarious as I was as a dirty imperial in SWG...
I appreciate the fact that I cannot just "jump in" with EVE, learning curves enhance the shelf life of any MMO, and EVE has the steepest curve I have seen yet, second is SWG...
My trial runs up tomorrow, and it is a no-brainer for me to subscribe to this... As with prevous MMO's, only one or two features left me hanging on for more, like unlockable races, hitting max lvl and promised expansions... But with EVE, there is simply too much to do and limited time to try it all due to timed skills... All on one server too!
I think EVE may just be my best online experience yet...

HUZZAH! Not the alliance either :) I think with that one statement you've conquered 75% of the learning curve, ie, where's the most fun at. That's right...carebear slaughter 4tw!

lol, have fun, watch for the miners that have escorts waiting just outside the belt to jump you after you think you got the jump on the miner. I imagine that would be a funny thing to see though

Expansions are pretty regular and completly free to download last one was called RED MOON RISING.

Excellent to hear someone else getting so into the game!
I've been here for three years; haven't looked back. I don't think I'll ever stop playing, unless a) I die a painful RL death, b) CCP closes the servers down, or fks up really, really badly.
So all in all... Meh. <3 EVE. Oveur ftl.

Welcome to eve, the only permanant home of an MMO I've ever known. Played them all but only Eve has kept me playing. It really is a massive world. Everyone I show it to is baffled by the immensity and complexity of it all. The learning curve is steep but you can take it at your own pace and there are players, corps and even in-game ISD people in the help channel to help you out and explain things.
I hope I bump into you some day (so I can send you back to the clone vat, of course) :).

You know what, I never thought of that! During a 10+ jump somewhere, I could log on and drop some fools with my pump shotty until I arrive at my destination, probably could get a full map in too... CS:S is awesome... I wonder if my CPU could handle EVE minimized while playing a little CS... Anyone know? Have a P4 3 ghz, 1.5 gig Kingston 3200 RAM, ATI xt80 256meg... Whatchathink of that?

It will handle that easy. Whilst you are at it run disk defrag, deep virus scan and watch a divx wilst travelling afk through 0.0.. You will be ok  - Honest -
