Hey! I've been playin EVE for about a month. My favourite in this game so far are the drones :) Im hoping to lay my hands on a Dominix some day (with the skills to go with it), and stuff it with drones of every color ! Im not going to be a pirate, rather a npc pirate hunter and i want to aid my corp with combat/pvp of every kind. Now what i wonder is how/what i will do against smaller faster ships?
Ive read a bit on the forum, noticing that BS often have problems with friggs and interceptors . I understand that this have somthing with targeting/hitting/tracking a small and fast ship, but i dont yet understand what i can do about it.
What i need help with is figuring out what kind of equipment, skills and strategies would help me target/track/hit/kill fast ships when im in a Dominix? And what kind of drones would help me?
(Response from Dominix owners would me much apreciated ) |

hmm my domi setup has something with nos, and so far no probs with elite frigs, cause their cap dies to the domi instantly and then all drones can pretty much hit'em, so high slots u should have 3 nos 3 turrets med slots 3 cap rechargers 1 AB 1 Webber(if pvp then exchange 1 cap rehcarger for a 20 km scrambler) low slot some kind of tank If something is hard going, its not worth doing |

domi setup for vs guristas: 4x heavy nos, 2x medium nos 100mn MWD/AB, web, target painter, cap recharger x2 large armour repairer 2, 2x kinetic 1x therm hardeners, 1600mm plate (t2 if possible) 2x capacitor power relays
drones: 5x wasp, 10x vespa II, 10x hornet II
Training t2 drones (at least the light + medium ones) is a great idea if you are going to stay gallente as they rule also put the medium and light drones into groups of 5 as i find it makes them easier to keep track of and control

Dominix probably has the least problem with frigs/inties of all setups, as it tends to use
a) Undersized guns or b) Lots of Nosferatu/neutralisers
If you use one of these kind of 'standard' (some would say cookie cutter) setups, which have become standard because theyre very effective, you wont have problems with anything in PvP, from small size to large size, especially as you'll be with friends.
Try using www.eve-search.com to find some Dominix setups, or simply follow:
Hi: 4 Nos / 2 Neut Med: Jammers / Sensor Booster Lo: Armour Tank / Cap Relay

I havn't flown a dominix a great deal myself although i love the Ishtar and Vexor. I would go for a similar idea with the Dominix, consisting of 4 Heavy Nosferatus in highslots and 2 Dual 150mm Railgun II's / 2 Large Smartbombs.
Med slots id go for Sensor Booster II, 20km scrammer, webber, and two multispec jammers
-or-
2 sensor booster II's, webber and 2 x 20km warp scrammer, then in
Lows - 1 Large armor repairer II and Medium Armor repairer II, 2 x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II, Explosive Armor Hardner II and a 1600 plate. (or scrap the second rep and go 2 x 1600 plates)
Fiddling about with PG/CPU might be an issue and skills would obviosuly help. Hmm...
have fun
Edit: Domi has 7 lows just fiddle with it :P

With low SP the best Domi setup is heavy nosses in highs + maybe some medium guns, some EW in midslots and a good armor tank. Domi has a big amor bay so you can (and should) carry aroud a wide selection of drones. Heavy drones will deal most of your damage but carry medium/lights too against smaller ships.
Well essentially before you even think of getting your Domi into PvP you need:
good drone skills(drone interfacing 4, heavy drones 4, auxiliary drone skills to a decent level 3-4)
edit: when i started writing this post there was no reply to this thread ..you're fast guys
good armor tanking skills (to use tech 2 stuff)
good cap skills (energy management 4, energy sys op 4-5)
decent skill for medium guns at least because i think you will have to sacrifice too much pg to fit a full rack of heavy NOS

Nice! very good replies, i acctually understand what you all talkin about ! Seems like a good setup is to use nosferatu to disable (and get a lil extra cap) and drones to damage. was not sure if drones alone could deal enough damage to be effective, but i guess training Gallente BS and Droneskills will help alot. Im already familiar with webbing and armor tankin on my Thorax so i guess i can handle that part too .
Dont know if i misunderstood, but do sensor strength increase trackin speed?
Anyone know if the EW drones and Logistic Drones are wirth it? And do the Nosferatu need to track and hit or do they pretty much always hit if you got the target locked?Still related to a Dominix. |

Logistic drones are very useful if (and its a big if) you work in gangs. A set of heavy rep or shield rep drones on the main tank can make a big differance to your main tanker. Yes I know that there are lots of people who dont need the extra help in big missions but not everyone is that skilled. I use my domi when supporting Lev 4 missions. 3 Large rails 2 medium rails 1 Drone link augmenter (increases the range drones can be used) mid slots have a large cap batt, painter, webber and a tracking mod. Low slots is mainly tank with one damage mod (I am not the tanker but you never know when something is going to go wrong)
Drone bay. A set of medium drones A set of long range sentry drones A set of close range sentry drones A set of rep drones (three heavy armour rep and two medium armour rep)
Probably not the most efficiant way to set up but it works well for me and gives me plenty of options.
Not used the combat utility drones and EW drones much but a friend uses heavy web and painting drones in his geddon to pin a target down and light it up for his geddon to hit. He likes the combo.
