Hello everyone,
I have a question about hybrids; I personally like blasters with antimatter charges, but everyone seems to use railguns.
Am I missing something? Are blasters just not worth the faster rate of fire? I agree that you ahve to be nearly ontop of your opponent before they begin to hit, but their damage output seems outstanding.
So I guess I'm asking how come there are almost no setups for blasters, or why they are mostly shunned by Gallente/Caldari hybrid users everywhere.

1) large blasters are broken but still pretty good
2) blasters are more a way of life/style of play than rails.
3) rails are "safer"
4) people like "safe"
5) blasters get u in webb range
truthfully i LOVE blasters and they are my favorite weapons, they just take special ships/style of play to use, where as rails are simpler.

<3 Blasters. People use rails because it makes them feel safer, but blasters are more damaging and much more fun to use. Where's the fun in no risk? ------------------------------------- Ich mache diese Welt zu h÷lle.

I beleive that many of the setups posted on this forum at PVE, and rails tend to be more efficent for PVE. As far as PVP goes - if you had a killer set up, would you post it so everyone could either use it, or find the weakness in it and exploit that weakness? Didnt think so.
Silly mods, sigs are for wabbits. |

Only 3 ships really have a standard setup for using blasters - the Megathron, Deimos and Enyo.
The Megathron suffers atm and needs love - this is being addressed I believe, as are large blasters.
The Deimos is excellent, but you take a big risk flying it.
Even the Enyo is a little bit hairy because you get shafted by NOS and can even have trouble NPCing with webbers at times.
Other than that, there aren't any standard setups using blasters around. Some fly the taranis, eagle etc with blasters, but they're not waht you'd call 'normal' setups.

Uh, what? I don't see a lot of Taranises with railguns. - Ship Gallery - Helpdesk from Hell |

/mr looks at taranis's bonus.
Taranis is a blaster ship. I've never found it work without blasters. ------------------------------------- Ich mache diese Welt zu h÷lle.

Brutix and Thorax are usually used as blaster ships too. Enyo seems to be sued with rails more often than blasters.

Indeed. If you use railguns you dont have the tracking to hit alot of things. ---------------------------

Only if you are stupid enough to get webbed early by a faster ship. All the good Inty pilots I know fly rail ranises, because they punk close range ships so hard.

Because being webbed is so detrimental to tracking... or am I missing something here?

Ah yeah, completely forgot about the Thorax - classic blaster ship... I've heard of people using a Brutix with blasters, but since everyone also says that it's a bleedin slug to fly, it surprises me, since speed is essential with blasters.
Anyhoo... the point was, there are some ships out there using blasters and there are some very viable setups, some standard and some not.

No, being webbed is detrimental to moving. The faster pilot can determine the range of engagement, and when you're using a short range weapon like blasters, you really don't want to let the other guy control range.
