I've seen threads around about how great the Vexor is for PVP and even PVE.
I think I must be missing something, though - when I look at the Thorax and the Vexor, I feel that the Thorax is a better ship in every way - except that the Vexor is obviously a drone ship, and it has nice drone bonuses.
It seems that people like to set the Vexor up with a NOS. Why not set the Thorax up with a NOS? Will the Vexor outdamage a Thorax if the Thorax does not have its 5th gun? Is the drone bonus SO GOOD that it makes the Vexor superior for PVP?
I currently run this setup on my (PVE) Thorax: High: 5x 150mm rails (some compressed, some carbide) Med: AB, Cap recharger, webber (sometimes I replace the webber with a cap recharger and let the drones deal with frigs) Low: Med armor rep II, 1600mm crys plate, Armor hardeners (if I don't know what I'm going up against, I use a kinetic, explo, and thermal - meaning 3x hardeners; if I know what I'm up against I shuffle things around a bit to get some passive hardeners in)
It seems to me that I could strip down that build a little bit, put it in a Vexor - but does the drone bonus make it that great?
Thanks.
Ps. If you post "OMGWTF THAT BUILD SUCKS" - it does absolutely no good except perhaps to temporarily boost your own ego. However, it leads to a goodly amount of confusion for noobs like me - especially when experienced players rarely agree on what sucks vs. what doesn't... so we end up trying various builds until we find one that we like - never understanding WHY exactly it supposedly sucks.

the vexor has its place though, and with good drone skills tech 2 drones will be dealing about 150-200dps in any damage type. that combined with the NOS the Vexor will have on board makes for a mean combination.
and just to let you know the 1600mm plate raxes don't make much sence anymore

I'm not arguing that at all. What I am confused about is why nobody puts NOS on a Thorax if the NOS is so great on a Vexor. Obviously the NOS is a natural fit on the Vexor - but is one more gun so much better than a NOS (which translates to better tanking for PVE and taking away the enemy's tank for PVP)?

I still don't understand why 1600mm plate isn't good anymore. I know it sucks for PVP (since it kills the damage) - but for PVE it seems reasonable, doesn't it? I COULD drop it for a 800mm and put on some better guns I guess... I really dislike blasters though - and really, dual 150mm rails don't seem much better for DPS than my 150mm compresseds do.
Of course I know that the 1600mm makes me accelerate slower and turn slower, but it isn't like I'm orbiting stuff. For NPCing, I pull in and pretty much use the ship as a (somewhat) stationary rail platform, allowing my passive tank to soak up damage, and repairing after the battle (during warp).

why does the vexor own the thorax?
because it can tank those 5X med drone, fit 3 med nos and have a 800mm plate...it pwns damn hard _________________________________________________

So - the reason the Thorax CAN'T do that - is because it has too little damage if it were fit with NOSes? (Confirm or correct me here... thanks :) )

The Vexor is good because with good drone skills, it'll do probably about the same DPS with drones as the Thorax does with it's guns, yet the Vexor can fit multiple Nos' and suck the cap out of the enemy, thus tanking harder, reducing the enemy's tank, and generally making life hell for the opponent. It can fit guns too for that much more damage, but I prefer to go with Nos'. ----------

spot on, before the "nerf" (it was just needed and im saying this as a gallente specialist), the thorax did like 2/3 of its dmg with heavy drones and was able to fit that 1600mm setup, enough dmg anyway. but now that thorax has just 5 med drones compared to the vexor "7.5" you can say vexor is better. this is all relative though.
if i would get in range with a 5Xelectron 2 and 800mm plate setup thorax that vexor range it would die even before im outnossed. note that if even the smallest thing would go wrong, like vexor has a ab,web or i overshoot the target and than get webbed outside my optimal, i would get nossed and it would be a matter of time before i get the message "boarding ship". _________________________________________________

I understand. Good drone skills required. I'll have to keep that in mind when I get my drone interfacing to level 4 or so. I suspected that - but I wanted to hear it from someone more experienced than I.

Edited by: Shattered Chains on 16/02/2006 23:32:19 Your question about the Vexor drone bonus beeing good or bad - yes the bonus is great - gives your 5 drones better dmg/hp.
Vexor is a very versatile ship - u can fit only Nos/Neut on highs, u can fit all sorts of drones - 4 Medium drones and 1 Heavy web drone and use your mid slot to fit a tracking disruptor instead of a webber; or you can fit ECM drones and fit 2 warp disruptors.
The Thorax can do the same thing as the Vexor but lacks the extra 25m3 of drone space and the drone bonus. Also the small rails can be swaped to better guns - and i don't meen only blasters - think low grid usage guns if you are going to ignore the bonus of the ship and not fit MEDIUM hybrids. The second bonus of the thorax should not be neglected - so fit a MWD - can help you get out of nasty range of the other ship.
I like both ships - can turn out very unpredictable if used out of the box.

I'm not a drone guy, but I thought I heard someone talking about not being able to mix combat with EWar drones in space? o.O

You can mix them in space. You can not mix them in your internal (to ship) drones folders.

The vexor is by far the best pvp cruiser. People who say the rupture is better are just wrong.

I know in my arbitrator I'd take on a thorax any day with no fear. Load it with 3 heavy drones, hit him with a tracking disruptor and nos and watch the drones chew him apart.
Vexor doesn't have the tracking disruptor bonus but it can still tackle, nos, use some ew and kill you with it's drones.
