I've seen rumors about CCP working on adding off ship features to EVE such as being able to walk around stations and interact with other characters.
Are these just rumors or are they working on something like this or at least considering it?
The reason I ask is because I love the game and introduced several friends to it after playing for a few weeks. However none of them could get past the impersonal feel of it without having a true avatar and being able to at least get out of your ship and see the other characters walking around.
I know they would all play the game if something like this was added, as I'm sure a lot of other people would as well. |

The subject has popped up on many occasions but it has been stated that personal avatars walking around ships will never happen. This is due to the fact that if people can walk around they will then want to shoot each other and that isn't what the devs want eve to be like.
It around the boards somewhere.

Hmm well that's a shame. I think they are uneccessarly excluding a whole lot of players that would otherwise love the game.
It would make a huge difference and make for a much more vibrant community if you even had it so you could walk around the station when you dock. You could have terminals that correspond to the buttons on the right hand interface, and have a little bar/lounge area for characters to hang out in.
I don't think that would neccessarily lead to people wanting to kill each other on ground. When I played freelancer I never yearned for the ability to be able to cap someone while I was walking around on the ground. |

To be more exact, if i recall right such possibility isn't actually excluded but rather slated for undefined future... because if it was ever introduced it'd involve the mentioned ability to attack other players and suchlike. Which is like writing whole new game, which in turn requires attention of whole game staff to do it the 'good enough'.
I don't necessarily agree ability to just walk around station would actually make some huge difference or create 'more vibrant community', btw. Being forced to run between cute computer terminals to do the same thing you do now is basically just extra time sink. Bar/longue for characters to hang out is not really different from creating dedicated chat channel, and has disadvantage of having to actually be there, all in the same station, sitting on your bum instead of being able to chat while doing other things. Overall lot of extra work that'd need to be done, but very little impact on the gameplay when compared to what can already be done...

Actually, they would not love EVE for EVE's sake. They would love it for it's (choose one: Tribes, Doom, Quake, any other FPS you can think of)-like appearance. EVE is a perfectly fine game as it stands and it does NOT need to morph into some FPS look-a-like.

Yes it would. It isn't wise to compare 200,000 other subscribers to yourself, trust me. It will either make them look a whole lot smarter or make you look a lot less intelligent. While there are some fairly decent folk that respect other players, far too many of them just want to grief as many as they can before their credit cards max out.

did anyone mentionned already that we're pod pilotes and not really able to walk due to a lack of muscles?

nope we're all normal people

we can get out of the pod anytime we want
we're all just fat asses because we dont wanna move much
