I have been doing missions for Duvolle Labs for quite some time. Every time I get a storyline evemail, it is from an agent from Astral Mining. Is this a bug? Why is Astral Mining contacting me if I work for Duvolle exclusively?

Storyline missions give you faction standing, so it's not surprising that they come from somewhere else in the same faction. I've almost always got my storyline missions from Astral Mining even though I work for Federal Intelligence. An added bonus is that you get standing with Astral Mining from doing this.

Thanks. I just want to bump up my standing with Duvolle ASAP. I wish a Duvolle storyline agent would contact me.

It seems relatively random, with a slight lean towards whoever you're currently working for. I've run a LOT of duvolle missions in the past few months, and it seems about one out of every 3 is from them. Others come from all over... fed customs, gall navy, even got one for Roden :p

It's not borked, it can just get you unexpected results due to circumstances. It has worked like this pretty much from the beginning, well from the time CCP introduced the current storyline missions anyway.
When you get a storyline mission only your faction, the distance to the agent and the agents level are taken into consideration. And the last two can still end up looking silly. I was working to a Minnie level 3 agent in Gallente space and got the storyline missions in Rens (10+ jumps away) and the missions were mostly level 2 equivalent. But working for Gallente agents in Gallente space will generally get you 'sensible' Gallente storyline missions.

In theory the way it works is that it simply selects the closest storyline agent from your faction. It may randomise when there are multiple "closest" I guess, but I remember working for Gallente Customs I always got storylines from the food corp agent in the same system. My grain pile was immense

I wish I could find a way to not get story line missions from that stupid agent in Rens.
My Brutor faction is 9.88 I want faction with other corps.

Here's the way I see it: Either
A. CCP need to fix the system as it isn't working QUITE as intended. While proximity and faction SHOULD be factors, only faction seems to be. In some cases people get lucky and get the proper nearest agent. In some cases (like mine), the game skips 10+ valid agents in order to pick one many jumps away.
B. Everything is working as intended, and there is simply no reliability in storyline agent selection, nor was there ever intended to be.
I'm hoping A is true, as the system is just a little too random as it is. Some people can't/don't want to fight in combat missions, that's why divisions like Storage and Distribution exist. Some people want to do kill missions because they usually go by quicker, there are divisions for these too. However, even if you know every single storyline agent, and calculate that near "Regular Agent XYZ" there are only 17 Storyline agents less than 10 jumps away from you in "Regular Agent XYZ"s faction (all of which aren't combat based), yet you get the 21st agent 14 jumps away belonging to the Internal Security division...
Is this really how it's meant to be CCP?

The only randomness is whether the feature works for you or not.
I can predict that in 2006, as in 2005, all of my storyline missions will be with the same agent, irrespective of where I do my missions, and for whom. But because the system is "not quite broken enough", no-one upstairs gives a damn.

Storyline agents don't give corp standing. They give faction standing. It doesn't matter at all what corp a storyline agent works for so long as it's in the same faction that you've been doing missions for.
Now the location selection could use some work. Having to go 8 jumps to a storyline agent into Oursalaert is a pain, especially when there are several storyline agents a lot closer.

You really get the same storyline agent no matter which normal agent you do missions for? That seems odd, because I have a different soryline agent every time I switch normal agents...

Storyline missions certainly do give corp standing as well as faction standing. When I did my first storyline missions, the storyline agent was part of the Minmatar Mining Corporation - and accordingly, I gained standing with that corporation, as well as many factions like Minmatar Republic, Sisters of EVE, etc.

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!
Story line agents change factions but they also give a big(relatively big) boost to the corp standing for the corp that the story line agent belongs too.

This is true. I have logs to prove it :P

The only reliable way to get missions from a storyline agent of a specific corporation is to do missions for an agent in the same station that the storyline agent is in. That has worked for me 100% so far. Same system is not enough regrettably, I tried that and the agents in one station send me to a storyline with a different corp 3 systems away, in another station they send me to the same corp agent in system, and in the very station of the storyline agent I have been sent to that agent everytime I tried that in every corp I tried that.
All in all it is rather borked. Especially considering the corp standing gain from storylines is sometimes immense, but what good is an immense standing boost with a corp you have zero intention working for?

I'm pretty sure that you are given storyline missions based on whomever the closest storyline agent is for that faction.
I have changed agents several times and I do not get the same storyline agent unless they are the closest to my new agent.
So in theory, if you are trying to raise Duvolle, see if they have a storyline agent anywhere. Once you find that agent (if one exists), find the best normal agent closest to them and run missions, hopefully in the same system.
Even if you do not find a storyline agent for the corp you want, keep in mind that storyline missions will raise your overall faction standing and ultimately allow you to achieve your goal.
