Several times. Usually goes as follows: fly around, occasionally see people in local, chat a bit, get bored, leave. People claim there are pirates or something there but I've never encountered this specific roleplay community. All I ever see is lowsec pvpers and FW, shooting each other and occasionally some hi/null person too dumb to know any better.

One time I woke up in Jita with this horrible headache and pain throughout my body. I slowly got up from the hard metal floor of my ship realizing to my surprise I was completely naked. My ship had this weird smell to it unlike anything else. It wasn't a bad smell per say, but something wasn't right about it. And when i finally got back a somewhat clear non-blurred vision I hastefully took a step backwards and almost tripped over empty bottles of Spirits and this ugly looking Amarrian Slave Hound. My confusion was promptly interrupted and perhaps amplified by a voice behind me. It was an exotic dancer female, one of many as it turned out, asking where we were and what the hell had happened last night. Indeed that was a question that needed answers. The answer came to me quite rapidly as I walked into the other room in the search of my fancy attire. There were heads and skulls, placed like trophies, and a chained up Minmatar slave sitting in a corner staring into the void as if his soul had suddenly left him. He muttered faint words repeatedly "Please Don't make us go back there". Back where? I asked, and he pointed to the wall besides me, where someone had painted this huge Unicorn covering the whole wall. I immediately realized where I had been. My actions and events were all blurred and blacked out, but it appeared as if i had a good time. Poor souls I thought as i chuckled loudly while looking at the heads. Lowsec is one hell of a place..
What a riveting tale that was! On a serious note, i strongly encourage everyone to head out to low sec and find out for themselves. What could possibly go wrong?! |

My first experience with lowsec was:
- set up my first mining cruiser, after playing for one month - go to lowsec on its maiden flight. First flight of my first cruiser. - warp to a belt - rat spawns - another red cross spawns - the second red cross tackles me - third red cross spawns and kills my ship - I notice he's a player, I insult him on local - he opens convo - I criticise him for shooting a unarmed ship - after a few lines, he apologyzes and states he doesn't likes shooting miners - he asks how much money I lost with that ship, i estimate it, he gives me back my money
Looking for the killmail, the guy who killed my ship apparently scored over 1,500 kills before his last kill on june 2011, when his account was 4 years old.

Lowsec is over advertised as dangerous place. Uuu the excitement when i put my first pos in lowsec. Was flying industrial solo, cargo full of valuable stuff. Fearing some pirate to find me before POS is anchored and has shield up..
Just like nullsec, most of lowsec is just booring, nothing much really happens there. Fame of tooth shattering danger is mostly earned by people camping gates from highsec. Once your throw those bottleneck systems, its usually smooth sailing. We are Minmatar, Our ship are made of scraps, but look what our scraps can do... |

Chances are, you'll have no problems. Though I did get bit earlier this year with that attitude, but it was the 1st time in forever.
If you're a bit less experienced and/or can't risk it, the map filters available will tell you if there's a problem system on your route. |

First time I went to low-sec was up near Solitude (which I had "pod-expressed" to with my corp 2 months earlier).
I was told that the corp needed some critical stuff ASAP (Trimark rigs and EANMs I think?) and no one with a "safe" means of hauling was online. I had a Rifter that I got from someone else and was in a naked clone (having been podded two nights before)... so I figured I had nothing to lose and volunteered.
The shortest sec route from Solitude to empire space was null-sec and always camped with bubbles. So I asked if there was a low-sec route. There was. I was given the waypoint systems by a corpie and the needed ISK by another. Then I proceeded to I make the 25 jump round trip journey.
Long story short... I made the journey to and from unmolested. But my heart was pounding the whole time as I was assuming that my immediate demise (and the demise of 100 mil worth of stuff I was carrying) was just around the corner.
Now I live in low-sec. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

A year passed before I picked up eve again.

2nd week of playing. Trying to make a space buck in my Iteron I. Cargo full of milk and frozen food. Accidently bought some in a 0.4 system but I thought, why not.
Got there, finished loading the ship.
Undocked. Yellow boxed. Auto-targeted back. Sploded.
Docked the pod. Raged. Undocked and realized my new velator didn't have enough cargo space to grab anything from my wreck. Other than the fact it was gone. lol
Warped home. Only ever go back in really fast cheap hulls if I need to pick something up.
I hope he liked the Milk.
Turned off auto-target. Tank things better. Learned about stopping on undock to look around.

Ya, you know, I've spent some time there. It's weird though, every time I try to visit with the people in local they are always trying to run away, and then somehow there ships seem to disappear in an odd flash to be replaced by a capsule.
Another strange thing I've noticed is there's vast fields of untouched ores just waiting for an opportunistic industrialist to capitalize on that business opportunity. Alas, I cannot capitalize on this as I am incapable of fitting even the most basic of mining implements, but I trust someone will take up the challenge! |

They won't, avoiding the part where a flash happens and they're left with a pod kills their ROI. Nullsec is way safer & more profitable. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

I go to low sec once a week, to collect items I've bought in region wide buy orders. Nowadays you don't need to go in a blockade runner or anything like that just because there will be no gatecamps, most of the low sec residents are either:
1) Cyno Alts;
2) Scouts for the traders;
3) Mission runners and carebears in general that will stay afk docked until local only show him, his scout and his Alt; and
4) PI Alts, but they will only log for 5 minutes each 3 days, not that residents we could say.
In fact, I can feel safer in low sec than in high sec, there is one thing you will never find there: the gank squads.
There are, indeed, some pirates that roam here and there but these ones are so rare that you can consider yourself lucky if you see one, I do think there are some reproduction in captivity projects that are focused in the reintroduction of these species to the wild.
Resuming: Low sec, if you want some life quality, go live there.

"situation awareness" L-sec is a breeze if you keep out of the roids. Always watch for the gate look out when traveling, warp to 0, look, then jump. -½o-+ Sauron Of_Mordor |

Got podded as a fairly new character in a Kestral. I didn't know you could avoid LS and just kinda treated it as normal. I go there occasionally now to rat or mine usually don't see many people. Seems like if you talk to them in local they go just leave system for the most part. Last time I got killed in Null was in a bait proc. Could not break the tank of the Drake that jump me when I wasn't paying attention. I had him webbed and scrammed. I blame my 2 year old niece for calling me. I normally ignore phone calls in LS. LS ain't that scary I just dont usually have the time to do much there and I don't go there if I know I will have distractions. |

yes
Nothing happened there. Went back to highsec and got ganked there.
Srsly, lowsec is more secure than highsec. You get shot at in both but in low you can see them coming. |

I always get nervous in highsec these days, so many people in local! and ships at everygate. in low I at least can see the attack comming.
And yes i live in lowsec, and it is faaar from the deathtrap I thought it was for so many years. heck most of the time i go roaming and find no one to shoot, everyone runs away :( usually while saying, nice cyno trap! trololol.
I dont know what they mean...

I never understood all the misguided fear for low-sec. I simply had the thought process of "hey look I can shoot ppl without concord shooting me' Within my first few months of playing I was setting up a POS in a low sec system and got my first kill with a few corpmates. I can still remember the feeling of the adrenaline pumping thru my veins as I activated my warp scrambler on that vexor. What a rush! Now I never leave low...after you learn the ropes it's actually a pretty cool place to live. Oderint Dum Metuant |

I ended up giving lowsec a try earlier. Ran into a couple people also exploring, managed to not get murdered by an Ishtar/Cheetah pair and a Gnosis also doing sites, mostly by hunches and warping in at 100. Made enough to pay for the Imicus I was flying around 7 times over. Just logged off now after hopping into Great Wildlands and back again. Passed a system with 70 hostiles and another with 90 on the way in. Didn't find any sites, but it was still a thrill. The home journey was uneventful.
So that was my first real trip into lowsec and nullsec. Passed a few bubbles, also fairly sure I managed to avoid a few people at gates with MWD+cloak. Just got my BS for L4 missions, but now I want to abandon that and go out to null and low more. The rush is about 1000 times more fun than "Which hardeners should I fit for this mission." :D
I gotta say, though, the fear I and other newbies feel seems to be mostly based on a lack of knowledge. In the great majority of the systems I passed through, nothing was going on. At all. |
