I've noticed that people's character images show up next to their replies in the forum. Mine shows up as a !. How do I change this option?

That just means that your character is too new for the forums to have the picture. Wait a week or two and it'll show up by itself.

There have been a few issues with the portrait rendering service. When the web server was split across 2 servers last year as a part of the load balancing efforts, this introduced a problem with the rendering and the imagery needs to be uploaded manually. t20 has tried a number of times and ran into issues where the connection times out.
We are looking into the issue and hope to resolve it soon after the hardware upgrade next week.

Since it looks like you guys are using MSSQL for our beloved forums, i might recommend to take a look at the graphic right here, and Here for the bigger picture.
That stuff is really resilent to timing/timout issues.

yah about that my forum portrait is the old one from over 2 months ago.

Actually that makes me wonder, in most MMORPGs the excuse for playing a gal is that you prefer looking at their backside, how does that work in Eve?
