We captured Iteron V at belt with two of my friends. We ransomedhe and can for 6m. He delayed loooooooonggggggggggg. I told our team to start firing, at same time he started to explode, I got moneys :(. It was too late, I returned 2m for he's ship didin't destroy cans. I felt sorry and returned those 2m.
it kinda was he's own falt. Is this okay?

Well, you returned his ISK and the ransom money, but it was his fault for delaying. Dont be too hard on yourself, this crap happens. I was ransoming a guy once, had him to 20% structure and a belt spawn showed up, killed him just as I got my money, then i looted him and got a bunch of Gistii loot ---------------------------

Suppose so, it was his fault he didn't pay fast enough, and you refunded his rather late randsom.
You should try setting a time limit next time. '2 mill or your ship good sir, you have 30 seconds to comply' No nonsense. __________________________________________________

You should have kept his money, popped his pod and cans. Then blamed him for it happening.

If they have to "borrow money from a friend" you're doing something wrong. You're either overbilling for soft targets, or understimating the well connected. Noone's going to pay equal to the ship's insurance unless they've got fancy mods, and no one's going to pay for half the podcost without a free warp unless they've got implants. In either of those cases, we're talking about noobs who have no cash, have none spare but what they've put in their ship, or have implants they won't replace if they have any sense. It'd be rather unusual to find a newb that realizes he has no chance and surrenders immediately before the 8 seconds it takes to deship him.
Blackguards roaming the alleys will knock you down and take what's in your pockets, maybe nick your shoes. It's pretty unusual to capture a target and get the relatives to wire in money for their release.
Noob NPCers in BCs and Ravens are about your best bet for a fat ransom. The rest either need a sensible rate or are pvpers are looking for a win or loss anyhow.
Isk doesn't have the same value for everyone. EVE doesn't have much of a civil defense force, so we might as well have social classes. The working classes need to slide by on proportionate rates of extortion. A shilling from one class is the same as a pound from another.
Do we really need to make a flowchart for this sort of thing?

to the OP, You are a honourable pirate I must say. You don't have to be mean to be a pirate. Killing people solves nothing, as in Eve it's just wasted money. A pirate or a murderer here is just a buisness man taking exploit of those who are weaker then himself. Facts of real life. Some are even nice enough to offer protetion from other pirates. But just podding for nothing, that is being mean. Some may do it for rp purpose, some for the thrill, som for the implants. But other then that.. just bad. ----

Soyemia, you've made some threads in the past complaining about your financial status.. word of advice, don't even bother ransoming Industrials or Barges. Its not worth getting the 1-2m ransom only to have named expanders or strip miners slip through your fingers.. .___. {-,-} /)__) -"-"- Inactive as of 11-02-06. Still Whorum Foring though.

Of course if you just destroy the ship for it's component parts..you could very well come away with a lot less than 1-2m or nothing at all....depends on the luck of the draw on what modules are destroyed....so perhaps it's best to ransom and get a guarunteed 1-2 mill..than nothing or a couple of hundred k in clutter.

Many haulers who fit rare expanders do so because it gives them the same amount of cargo space as regular expanders, while freeing up 2 or more slots for WCS. So I find its best to go in and pop them as quick as possible. And of course ransoms aren't exactly garuanteed either.

A lone hauler in belt at low sec is such idiotic thing to do, it deserves a punishment. And as generally if you see a ship you have even small change of killing , do so. Ransom first then pop... Scramble the pod, if smack in local "pop" :) works 100% sure and only hurts the noob who lost and you sec status (and is prob one of the best ways to keep bounty hunters of your arse) AND NEVER EVER PAY THE VICTIM IN ANY WAY OR IN ANY CASE!
