skilled up and fitting up several mill worth of Dust Orbit support, hook up voice with my dust squad, follow them around to three battles/planets and could not find a satellite, see explosions on the surface, see any indication of districts, nothing (but hanging out for extended periods in 0.01 space, in a spendy for me rig).
right clicking planet (no promised district menu), probes, directional scans, overview set to all, scrolling around planet view, radial dialog different (planet view were open container is, no orbit, no keep distance, nothing)
WTF ... I know I'm new ... I googled, I asked in milita, corp, alliance public ... nothing of value.
I hear some dust squads have had one ... but I sure as hell could not figure out how to find/give one.
in readling the eveonlines faq on how to, the final blow it says it pays no LP, no ISK, no squat.
WTF ccp? I want to support Dust, I want to support my dust corp, I want involved in PC, I look forward to dust FW supposed upcoming changes ... but good hell is Dust just dead? bad experiment, not worth really hooking this up?
Is there anyone here that has done a OB and could help me figure out why the hell I could not give my squad some space support. |

Your guys on the ground have to call in the strike I think, at which point you should get some kind of indicator that you can Unleash Hell. That's all I know. |

The default settings for the overview don't show Planetary District Satellites. And even then they only show up when someone's at them.
Generally, if you're looking at the right planet, you can use the Right-Click Menu to Navigate Planets > [Insert Name of Planet] > Districts > {Insert District Number}.
You must also click on the district (indicated by a white circle on the planets surface when you look at it, and mouse over it.
You must also have small guns, loaded with Orbital Bombardment Ammunition.
Also the Squad Leader on the ground must call in the strike. It will provide you with a target (you don't need to lock onto this tharet, it is fed to you direct. Select that Target and press F1.
Also, check the following.
If it is a faction warfare battle, you MUST be enlisted in the Corresponding Militia. Gallente, Caldari, etc.
If it is a Planetary Conquest battle, you MUST be in their Alliance/Corporation to provide said support.
If it's a public Match, sorry you're out of luck.
As to deeper EVE / DUST interactions. It IS coming in the future... as CCP DUST is so fond of saying SOON tm |

Hunter Blake,
Thank you for this information! It is timely as I want to try this again tonight after work. Doing a couple plex'es, I now understand the concept of various overview items that only become visible on the overview when someone is at/in the location.
Someone else (chat) mentioned something about the right click on the planet having a "Radio Station" or some such option and that the district selections were under that ... your instructions sound more solid, as it sounds like a dialog pops up where then planet/district can be typed in ...
I should be good on the other notes ... my eve Alliance and corp is Gallente, do you know if I can do Minmatar as well?
thanks again ... I'll return and report

Unfortunately, I believe you have to be in the exact militia alignment. So Gallente will provide Orbitals for Gallente alone, and not the Minmatar Republic. |

Good info, and not a problem ... my corp squad synchs all the time, with no current cares other than which faction seems to have the least lag right now. Guys, ya want a killer stick, its going to have to be Gallente.

At work, can't look in game ...
btw, are we eve side friends or WT?
When it comes to Dust514/Eve integration support, at this point in its history ... hopefully we, who care, are all allies in aspect.

when in suit/ship ... lets have good battle.

you're looking for a 'district satellite'
you can find them easily by right-clicking out in space, and going to the planet the dusters are on, and selecting the district to warp to.
when you arrive on grid (and I believe 150 km cloaked or not) the district satellite will show up like a cyno for everyone in system who has them added to their overview.
you should add them to your overview
when in doubt, ask a pirate. |

Currently The Southern Legion (and by extension The Umbra Combine) isn't involved in Faction Warfare, so unless you have a direct War Declaration from us, we are not war targets in EVE, but could be rivals in DUST 514 if your corporation plans to enter the arena of Planetary Conquest, as that is where we operate primarily. Our members do often fight in Faction Warfare queue syncs for various Factions for training. Minmatar and Gallente in general from comms chatter, but also for Caldari and Amarr at times too. |

Yes, I have browsed the dust star map and have seen the Southern Legion's holdings in MH.
The spur of the moment chat mentioned in forum about the upcoming OB was very interesting and very informing. Its obvious that I'm a newbie and know squat, but it sounds like PC and FW changes are going to a district near you, and I got the impression soon, and not tm soon.
but who knows.
Thanks for all the input Hunter ... good hunting out there! |

The orbital mechanics will be changing soon.
The Southern Legion and The Umbra Combine has a contingent of pilots capable of combat, but always looking to add more to the ranks.
I'm hoping it wont be a simple I.W.I.N Button when they change these mechanics, but I'm hoping it's simply a 'tactical' enhancement that involves EVE even more so than now.
I can't wait to hear the battles that happen in orbit around planets as EVE pilots vie for control of Orbital Space. It will definitely make things more interesting... and even more so again when Skyfire Batteries are introduced to DUST 514, giving DUST mercs the ability to shoot back. |

You can provide OB support to your militia and your allied militia, so Caldari and Amarr can provide support to each others matches and Gallente and Minmatar can do the same.
In terms of Planetary Conquest there has been a good bit of discussion about opening up the mechanic beyond just Corp/Alliance relations.

I'm glad I caught the meeting yesterday, ty for facilitating that and for the invite.
I could not get back out to try last night (losing our home), but assume the problem was current mismatch of dust/eve milita's.

Dust is not so much dead as... it's more like it hasn't even been born yet... I don't get what's taking CCP sooo long though (probably because every time they release a half finished eve feature or other game they start on a new eve feature or other game lol - wish they would actually finish one thing before moving on to the next) |
