Dont know if this topic has ever been brought up before, but i would like to post up my two cents on it.
Currently in game the only personal customization avaliable (as far as cosmetics go) is the AUR store for clothing. I personally have never bought anything from there and i know there are thousands of capsuleers out there that can probably say the same. Honestly, it seems like a useless aspect of the game that CCP probably isnt making much money on. I'd like to suggest a way to change that.
Paint Schemes:
Only way to change the look of your ships hull is to upgrade to the faction or tech 2 varient of it. While having a T2 or faction version of a ship is all fine and dandy, after a while it becomes kind of blah to look at. Mechwarrior Online has a system in place where you spend real life money for in game credits and permanently unlock a "paint scheme", or camo pattern. Whether its digital camo, checkerboard, chevrons, ect... each can be bought and permanently unlocked for that Mech pilot to put on what ever mech he wants.
Colors:
What good are paint schemes with out choosing colors to splash all over your ship? Little red over here, little white there... and... TADA! Red Bull Rifter! Okay...okay... bad example, but i think you get what i mean. Make each color and paint scheme avaliable for AUR in the store and you are well on your way to makings your ship look the way YOU want it to.
Decals:
Ok, so now your ship is the color and pattern you want it. Time to spruce it up and give it that "personal" touch. Warthunder has a system in place where you can buy decals, or unlock them through acheivements, with real money and place them where ever you want them. The possibilities are endless with these. Take you favorite interceptor... paint it red of course... now slap some flame decals on the wings and over heat the MWD and I think you will get the reference. Or say you are a pirate or Faction Warfare combatant- take your favorite assault frigate, add some eyes and sharks teeth to the nose like was on the AVG Flying Tigers, now add some tack marks on the fuselage to symbolize the number of kills you have gotten and finish it off with some skull and crossbones on the wings. Now your ship is looking like its ready for action.
In closing, whether you take your favorite Covert Recon and paint it all black with a Ninja symbol on the nose, or you troll around Jita in a pink and white Hello Kitty schemed (yes i went there) Dominix or Drake... its your ship and your right to make it look the way you want it. All you have to do is support this thread and together we can convince CCP to put this in place. I personally beleive CCP would stand to make some money though AUR with option like these in place.

No. I'm for ship customization but with limits. I'd not like seeing fire decals or shark teeth etc. I guess a corp logo as decals is fine and the color combinations are pre defined so we don't have to deal with pink and neon green titans. |

I'd suggest new items: "Paint Kits" (I'm not very inspired atm). There would be S,M,L or XL variations of each one. Just pretty paintjobs for your ship. Personally, instead of a random camo, fire decals, etc. I'd like to be able to paint my ships as faction ones, specifically pirate ones. Have you ever seen a Blood Raiders Prophecy, or an Equilibrium of Mankind Apocalypse, or a Serpentis Catalyst, at PVE? Those are impressive paintjobs. |

Search feature exists. Not a new idea. Already on the roadmap for future development as per CCP Seagull having said so. |

You may be counting for a very long time, unless your corp colors include lime green.

Counting the days for my neon lime green Navy Raven. I'd join the first corporation that exists only to gank all unacceptable paintjobs like that. ;-) |

One of the higher-ups in the Art Department said in an interview that one of the big things with getting objects converted to V3 is that the objects can then easily be given whatever sort of skin you want. All those crazy limited-edition Catalysts were actually intended as a demonstration of the V3 reskinning ability. I wouldn't necessarily expect it for 2014, as it only takes a quick glance through the ship tree to figure that Art is probably still crazy busy remodeling all the old T2 ships to have new-and-distinct animation-enabled versions, but maybe 2015. Let's not forget that a UI for skinning ships has to be devised too, which will probably require plenty of work on its own.
What I do know is that CCP Seagull is operating with the framework of a One-Year Plan, a Three-Year Roadmap and a Five-Year Vision. Every time she says something about the future, keep that in mind. I would anticipate corp colors on our ships to be somewhere around that Three-Year mark.
Yes, I know, you're going to demand that I post links. I'll dig them up.. probably.. but the art interview should be right on CCPGAMES' YouTube channel. |
