Ok, following tutorial, went out to deadspace, picked off a couple of training droids, suddenly... incoming 'flashing red' opens fire on me (I may have fired first, thinking another droid!). It was pretty obvious due to the massive damage I was taking, this was no training droid. Warps back to my bookmarked home station and tried to dock for repair. It won't let me... next minute, my attacker appears chasing my butt again (right outside station!). Warps to random planet... few seconds later he appears and finishes me off. Let my pod go free ;-)
Questions are, how do I flee to safety (where IS safety)? How does he know where I'm warping too? Or is it the case, as I opened fire/returned fire... it's to the death?
Any advice to help me keep my second ship to at least the end of the tutorial would be MUCH appreciated ;-)

Edited by: Shugo Kazuma on 18/02/2006 08:33:05 Finding someone isn't hard if they're warping to a station/planet, you can ususally get a good idea of where they're going by watching their warp line.
Did you take from a red can? Did you get the warning message about stealing from cans that don't belong to you? You may have taken something that wasn't yours and allowed the other player to destroy your ship under the agression rules (if he attacked your pod, concord would have swooped in and totaled his ship).
Edit: If you choose to return fire, there's a timer where you cannot dock or use a gate. If you cease fire and let that timer expire, you can once again dock/jump with your ship.
Jumping to safety would have to be using safespots, you can undoubtly find many indepth guides here on how to make them. You can also use the warp to and pick say 100km. Most people by default warp to 15km, so if you're being chased in a noob ship by a noob ship (since only noob ships and shuttles can enter the tutorial deadspace zones), you'll gain valuable time to choose another escape by varying your entry distances. Note, this doesn't work so well when you're up against ships that have weapons ranges exceeding 100km.

Excellent, thanks for that, much appreciated.
I didn't touch any red cans or ignore any warnings. I may not have been 'in' the deadspace as I warped close and hadn't clicked on the tutorial to 'wake it up when I got there'. Was in the process of examining the gate as per another pop-up box instruction (from Concord, I think).
No matter, you've given me some good pointers there and I'll be better prepared next time ;-)

Also know that above 0.4 Concord will kill you / him if you / he attacks without kill rights. ----

He probably griefed you by targetting you. If you had a free targetting slot open you would have auto-targetted him back just like any regular practice drone. Perceiving it as a threat, since you sure as hell probably didn't lock onto it, you fired, and he got his free kill.

Considering this mission is designed for rookies, the possibilities for a big screw up are higher than perhaps they should be - it nearly caught me out badly as well.
You have a mix of NPCs and inexperienced players, all trying to get a deadspace key from a cargo container. I think I looted someone else's key when I did the mission but got away with it. I am not surprised if it all gets a bit silly at times.

Alexis... I think that's exactly what happened! His 'handle' or 'gamer tag' seems to have been choosen to get this exact reaction from a n00b... don't wanna name 'names' as it doesn't seem to be the right thing around here ;-)
'tis past now anyway... and I managed to visit some 0.4 territory to pick up some cheap equipment (and back) unscathed, today
