hello, i am thinking about setting up a tower in a c3 with a couple of friends with alts. and just for the ease of access im thinking about one with highsec static. so im wondering if anyone can share their experences. are there really THAT much trafic from highsec to make it impossible to live in relative peace? are there mostly exploration pve ships, or hardcore pvpers that usually passes by? thx in advance |

edit: another question, as my memory fails me.. are there any drawbacks to not having POCOs? its just as fine to just launch from planet right? |

I live "solo" in a C3 with my 2 alts - I have a high sec static, and it's perfectly viable to live there. The passersby through the static are usually solo explorers or newbies just testing the waters, the real PvP threat will come from K162's into your hole where more organized w-space gangs will roam.
Many people say the lack of a W-space static makes C3's less than optimall, but you need to remember that the C2s/C4s with static C3 exits have to go somewhere. It's not unusual for me to have 1 or more W-space connections in my hole in addition to my static, and it's perfectly viable to reverse farm those holes (especially C4's if you can handle them).
Just make sure you have properly set up PoS defenses, and a few POS gunners - and most importantly, don't be a jerk, even if you get ganked. Most gangs (99.9%) won't bother to bash your POS unless you really **** them off or they think you have something super blinged out in your POS.
As for the POCOs, you can do planetary launches but I don't think you can import to a planet without POCO access, so if you're only doing P1/P2 you should be fine, but you can't run a factory planet without a POCO.

If you have no incoming K162s, you can roll your static. Just don't initiate warp to the new static and you will be isolated. The post-Odyssey dumbscovery scanner will let you know if a k162 pops up.
I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose. |

The majority of C3s I believe have 2 statics if you don't initiate warp to the 2 statics they won't open the other end that does make it safer then you have the incomings to worry about As the poster above mentions his WH if he has only 1 static that limits income but can still make decent isk in them |

You dont have to be afraid about hi-sec static traffic. If you close your static after you stop using it newly spawned static will have end only in your hole and hi-sec ends spawns when you warp to your end of hole.
So unles you open static yourself you should be ok.
But there is plenty of incoming holes to C3. Lot of other people roll their static and farm other peoples C3s. |

doing PI without poco is practically impossible. Planet launches are only for very small amount of materials and then you have to wait half an hour for another launch. |

C3s only have one static. |

After living three years in several WHs let me tell you my experience:
- C3s have lots of traffic. Everyone wants to farm this kind of WH because: they are good for PvP (many ppl in tengus, T3s, BS, etc), good ISK/Hour PVE, fast site spawn rate, 'last soloable' WH class and provides an exit to known space. Ah also, C3s are 'Whitey' so there is always 'daylight' :P and many ppl love that.
- Even if you collapse all K162 (and you should if you want to be safe) there is a good chance that people farming this kind of WH will roll theirs onto you while you are doing sites. This happens a lot in a C3 if you play on EU/US timezone.
- And even if they are 'explorers' anyone that sees wrecks or a ship outside a POS will rapidly turn them into hunters.
So you must consider: - Rolling the static to avoid the danger coming from those that have already pre-scanned your WH (if you have a HS static with more enfasis).
- Put a cloaked scout (or trial or whatever) close by the new entrance to hear the sound of anyone coming through (I never trusted the 'dont-warp-to-static-and-it-will-remain-forever-closed').
- Click 'show anomalies' every now and then. If you have secured the WH, chances that someone had left a cloaked ship waiting for you are dim (except if you had a carrier or something too shiny).
- Collapsing a couple of WHs might take quite some time depending on ships/alts/ppl you have online at the moment.
You will need imo: - A HIC -or- a disposable alt able to fly a cruiser with 100MN afterburner fit to collapse the WH.
- A couple ppl in cheap battleships (typhoons for example and has many lows) -or- one battleship that you can eject/swap between alts/ppl to crit the WH -or- Orca if you have a falcon/Blackbird alt.
- CovOps (duh).
- Tengus (duh) -or- Domis -or- Command ships -or- HACs -or- whatever that can kill fast.
If you are set for a C3: - Go for C3 with LS or even NS. The static is much quieter. Easy to find one unnocupied, just go to LS or NS and start scanning. You don't need to go to empire every day. Your K162's will provide you with 1 (top 2) jumps from empire many times per week for you to run your logistics through them. Besides, LS and NS are fun!
If you/your-corp have at least two tengus, I would suggest: - Go for a C4 -> C3, or C4->C2/C1. Two RR tengus can easily run sites in a C4 where there is a lot less K162 spawning.
- You will always be 1 jump from either HS, LS or NS.
- You can farm the other WHs if you have no anomalies left on your home system (and you will run out).
- Static C1 -> Nobody wants it, good for tiny corps, easy to defend (only BC can come over the static), you can kill 'noobs' in the C1 :)
- Static C2 -> You will have more a bit more traffic coming over the static. Great for PvP.
- Static C3 -> Best of worlds imo.
Hope that helps,
Cheers.
