I'm picky when I create my characters...and I usually get ****ed about how they look and restart LOL Not tomention...1/2 the time when I creat a character...thier portrait comes out black, and I need to remake them...
Why in gods name do we have to wait 5 1/2 hours to completely delete our characters? WTH is the purpose? I have NEVER seen such a thing in any game before in my life...its usually...do you want to delete...are you sure...and then maybe another are you REALLY sure...then they are gone
can someone clarify this for me?

It does suck..... you should be asked twice.... once to make sure and once to make damn sure...then 'Bye Bye'.

Maybe it is agains griefers. They creat char. THen make something bad and try to create new one.
With this rule they must wait a little longer

I suspect it's to stop griefing. It's easy to create a new character with enough gunnery and piloting skills to use a combat frigate, and those are dirt cheap to build. A griefer could keep killing noobs with an alt until the alt lost too much security status, then make another alt and repeat. With a rich character providing ships and weapons you could keep this up all day if you could make alts whenever you wanted. After all, a level 2 frigate and 2-3 small guns cost next to nothing to an experienced player, but that's plenty to pod someone new.

Those are good reasons and there was a thread in the Developer blogs (journals) on the topic which proposed even longer period between deletions. I even read a post on the forums sometime ago advocating the absence of alternates which is going a little too far.
The main reasons as stated are the griefers and the possibility of creating highly criminal characters intent on taking loans, borrowing, stealing (ore, corp equipment, etc.) and then simply deleting themselves after the damage has been done to permanent players. Essentially, the developers fear an exploitation of the ability to create characters you can do anything with, with just basic skills.

Good reasons but you would think that they could think of a different way to stop such acts...make it so you CANT PvP in high secs...like .8 and up...or somethin...then newbs wont die...
As for people stealing equipment from corps...it is the corps fault that they let the stranger into the corp adn gave them equipment

Yes, it is the corporations' fault given the current game mechanics, but in life these people would probably get caught by the police if they weren't deleted and if stealing was a crime in Eve. Speaking of police, infortunately, it's the NPC police's fault if newbies get killed in secure space.
Either way I guess it's encouraging free roleplay in the universe.

A simple solution to this would be to allow the instant deletion of any character that hasnt entered space yet, whilst leaving the wait time for those that have.
This would at least allow people to delete mistakes in character creation

Yes, that's a very good idea and should be pretty easy to monitor if people have flown after the they first enter the game of if the character is only around 10 mins old. Plus, I'm sure most of the people that want to delete their chars quickly are people who made a minor mistake.

While it is true that it is the corps fault for letting people who are "New to the corp" to have those permissions, what about those people who have been in the corp for 9 months +? These people have probably done a lot for the corp and have already taken a lot from the corp to start with. Then one day these people whom you have known fo so long and call friends wipe out your corp. What then?
Now I know that a lot of people out there are probably thinking you should have picked your friends better but people can fool anyone online if they want. Even when you can hear your the other persons voice you still do not know what they are thinking. I just have to say for all of you people out there who have malicious intent and love to do anything possible to cause pain and heart ache to others. We can get back what you have stolen from us. They are just objects. The pain we feel by being betrayed from those who we call friends will fade. We find that those who are left behind are in the wake of your passing are greater than before the betrayal. The greatest part of that pain is that you will never know it. You will never one of the people who truly benifit. You get the items you desire yes. We have to work harder to get back those items which we lost, yes. But you lost the greatest treasure of all and you will never know what it is. So smirk, laugh, make fun of those you will. For the greatest loss is your loss.

2 more reasons that it's a good idea to wait 10 hours - perhaps your account is hacked and someone deletes all your characters.
Or perhaps you accidentally delete a character and remember afterwards...
Anyway bad necro, bad.
