Hey guys. I'm flying Caracal now and doing L2 missions but would like to move on to L3 missions. Is Caracal good enough for L3 or should i move on to Ferox ? If Ferox is recommended then how to set it up for L3 PVE ??? Thanks in advance.

Edited by: HippoKing on 18/02/2006 17:03:53 ferox is good for lvl3s
a cerb would be better, but probably out of your reach (ISK and skills-wise) for now
edit: possible ferox setup would be
5 heavy launchers something else (tractors/nos/small guns)
passive shield tank (2 hards, 2 large extenders, recharger)
2 PDUs, 2 BCUs
sigs of the 23/24/25 hijack just as well -eris yarrrr, i shall retake my sig -HippoKing Not a chance, our 1337 sig haXx0r sk1llz are too powerful! - Wrangler Ho-Ho-Hooooooo, Merry Saturday!11 - Immy Yo ho ho and a bottle of BReeEEEEeee.... - Jacques ARRRRRRchambault |

It is possible to do L3's in a Moa or a Caracel however most pilots don't have the skills to do that until much later...and then you're doing L4's and greater by then.
The Ferox (or any BC) gets my endorsement, otherwise just gang up with a cruiser or 2 and you should be fine.
Also search the threads, there's plenty of PvE Ferox setups that work very well. Experiences may vary.

Low skills= Ferox passive tank
High skills = Eagle or Cerb if you dont have good gunnery skills

With above average skills the Caracal can do all but the most vicious L3s now. The last level of Spy Stash is a bit too much for me, but I've done pretty much every other L3 including all three parts of Tech Secrets and a couple Angels Extravaganzas with mine.
In general though, Ferox is the safest bet allowing you to just go through the motions and knock out L3s with ease.

id say go with the Ferox rather then a HAC though, more slots to play with. unless of course you have money to burn and can afford to loose T2 ships in a slip of lag or something.

For level 3's I'd say...
Ferox, 5x rails 2x launchers... active shield boost, passive hardners. If you can squeeze t2 250's on it, slap in som heavy ammo and get to work.
Caracal, I take mine to do level 3's these days. In this ship damage is your friend. Kill them fast, keep moving, manage your shield boosting and cap closely. I take 5 heavies and a passive hardner /active booster setup with BCU's.
To make any ship do well in level 3's you need 3 things: 1) Damage. The faster you remove high damage targets, the sooner your tank and cap usage can stabilize. 2) The ability to take damage long enough to kill the larger damage sources and stabilize your tank. 3) Range control. You must be able to keep your ship in it's optimal damage envelope. 4) Knowledge of your ship. Know when it's time to look for the door. Know how long it will take to warp, how much tanking cap / HP buffer you need. Know how long it takes to kill a target.
Plain and simple you do the above in any ship and you're golden.
The big question is what are you skills like? Do you have the hardner resist mode skills? Do you have the missle secondaries to kill a npc frig with heavy missiles? Can you make a railgun dance?
Answer those questions and you should know what you need and can do.
wow... what a rant.

My favourite method, which allows me to sc*****up 15-22,000lp's a night uses a raven. highs: the 6 best cruise missile launchers you can be bothered with. Personally i'm using XR-9000's. relatively cheap. 1 E500 heavy noss (incase i get too*****y and want some extra cap) and a tractor beam
Mids: xl-cl5, thermal and a kinetic acrive hardener (tech 2 for me, but i'm a nub), a cap 2 (i already said i was a nub), a shield booster amplifier and Lif booster rockets (the named bs afterburner)
lows: 5 bcu's (3 tech 2 and 2 named bcu's for me. yes, i'm a nub with silly gear on a lvl3 ship) Drones: 2 heavy, 2 medium, 1 light - personally i use an EM/kin mix of drones
Yes, this setup isn't about a caracel or a ferox. But this blasts through missions, with zero risk (once you know exactly when you can afford to aggro the entire level, etc.)
Doing all 6 stages of a guristas extrav, i can loot as i go, from undocking to docking in under 1hr 20. And i make about 7-8 mill isk from that mission alone (and about 2600lp's) The tractor beam saves loads of time. i tend to do a mass aggro, and shoot rats as they get within range of the tractor beam. Careful while looting mid combat (i have been known to press the wrong keys and pop cans.)
Basically, with cruise missiles to lvl4, and all the other missile skills to lvl4, i'm doing 507.3 dmg per missiles before resists, with a respectable 8-9 sec rof on the launchers (running from memory). Basically 2 salvos kills most cruisers. and 1 salvo kills when the mwd gods smile upon me. Don't ever waste ammo on frigates (waste of ammo - profit margin, hello?). Throw the noss on a webby frigates, and let the drones play.
I probably haven't help you at all, but this setup rocks all lvl3's. Weapon upgrades to lvl5 will help. God knows, ccp really made the cpu on the raven tight.
Enjoy. There are 2 rules in life. #1. Don't tell people everything you know. |
