Can somebody loan me $4.3mil to bid on these components from the Space Shuttle? The gold content alone is worth about $4.9mil. I'll let you keep one of the plates as a souvenir. Watch out for the asbestos. (Sorry for the all caps-- the U.S. government did it, not me).
4,553 UEA GOLD PLATES CONTAINING APPROXIMATELY 21-30.39 GRAMS OF GOLD PER PLATE. THE PLATES HAVE AN ASBESTOS CORE AND ALSO CONTAIN PALLADIUM, PLATINUM AND NICKEL. DETAILED INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE ATTACHED FACT SHEET. APPROXIMATELY HALF OF THESE PLATES FLEW ON THE SHUTTLE AND THE OTHERS WERE USED AS SPARES.** THE MINIMUM BID REQUIRED BY AGENCY IS $4,300,000
***** NON-US CITIZENS WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED ON NASA WHITE SANDS TEST FACILITY TO INSPECT OR PICKUP SURPLUS PERSONAL PROPERTY. THE SUCCESSFUL BIDDER MUST REMOVE ALL ITEMS AWARDED TO THEM AND CANNOT DISPOSE OF ITEMS ON WSTF PROPERTY INCLUDING IN THE TRASH RECEPTACLES. |

What happens then? Excellent Random! Well, if the bid goes higher, we'll have to do another quick round of fundraising. If that doesn't work, we can invest the $4.3 in other Federal surplus deals. Used fire trucks, retired Coast Guard patrol boats, confiscated Harleys. For that kind of money we could even buy a few former post offices, air force base buildings, weather stations, or lighthouses. They don't have any deactivated missile silos for sale at the moment, but those come up pretty often. |

There are cheaper parts of the space shuttle to buy as souvenir's then that.....a while back there were some of the heat tiles from the bottom of the shuttles that went up for sale/auction.

Then we go hunting for soda cans and play the .01 game It would be better to go strip the copper wiring from buildings while drinking soda from cans, and getting both. http://evelagl.blogspot.com/2013/10/october-update.html-á 10/31/13 LAGL update [click October update] http://i.imgur.com/RZXuYb9.jpg |
