any way to tone down the volume, or even git rid of it? its very loud compared to the other sounds, and I know toning down master volume works on it, but that also lowers all other sounds so warpdrive is still very loud compared to the rest ...

I really am suprised at how many people play MMO's without sound. It'd be like going through life with an Ipod on loud all the time blockin out all the sounds around you. Odd.

In Eve's case, its probably because the sound contributes a lot to client side performace problems on a lot of computers. -------------- Director. Caldari Patriot. Murderer of (his own) Frigates. |

Its because the sound isn't really that important to the game. Plus it interferes with Teamspeak. -- Proud member of the [23].

Edited by: Frank Elgyn on 20/02/2006 10:13:05 I want the same thing
After some searchign around I was able to unpack the .stuff file and find the warp sound that is very loud. Now If I could find a way to repakage it so EVE will use my edited "softer" version of it.

Well you could put an empty ogg-file in "..\EVE\res\Sound\Effect" folder. Or extract the original from the res.stuff an tune it down and put it there.
If thats ok with CCP. ======= WOTOK HAS NO BRAIN

I've noticed one thing, perhaps this'll help you, perhaps not. If you start Teamspeak before Eve, Eve will causes trouble. Particularly all those little clicks when you hover your mouse over menu items. (Re)starting TS while Eve is open fixes it.

contact me ingame, i have warp sound files that allow you to warp with only the initital thunder and "wooshing wind" sound active.. its alot more quiet and pleasant. :)
and very simple..no unpacking or anything. just creating a folder and dropping the new sound files in. so no hard core tampering w/the game files.
been using it this way since castor ;) -got'em from Eve-i.com. -may it rest in peace.

That's neat, but still doesn't negate the simple fact that there is no sound in space.

This has been asked for since EVE got sound. Every so often a dev posted that they'll add much more customisation in the sound department, or at least offer us to turn off the warp sound. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

I don't mean it causes problems with the program--I've never had problems.
Its just that I can't hear anyone with the EVE sounds on

Have you read the novella which explains why the pilots in the pods hear sound?
It's very clearly explained, and makes perfect sense.
I know my self I'll never play a game without sound. Especially this one. It allows me to know from which direction someone is attacking me. It lets me know when someone attacks me when I'm doing a long warp, and I'm alt-tabed reading these forums.
I don't have any trouble with sound and Ventrilo. Have those of you with team speak tried useing ventrilo for a bit? I know Vent had better audio. I know TS is more common, as it's been around a bit longer, but Vent sounds a LOT better. the ingame sound should be background sound. I DO turn the music off, as I use winamp to play tunes. no problems here with Game sounds, windamp music, and people talking on vent.

I like the sound, but after your first 100 warps it gets tiresome. How about different warp sounds for different ship sizes? Its little things like that that contribute alot to the feel of the game.

The damn warp drive sound is about 80% of the reason I turned all sounds off about a week into eve
If you're paying attention to the screen then I see no other practical reason why you'd want eve sounds on at all.

I turned off sound because it lags my computer. Now if the lag in-station could just be "turned off" hmmm...
You don't need sound to play EVE. Just a lot of blinking lights.

Too late, Winterblink, you insulted their God, their mighty infallible Prime Fiction. For you there will be no mercy, and no logical rational explanation will take away their self-righteous indignation..."WHAT, HOMG, HOW DARE U HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION OF THE EVE UNIVERSE!!111"

I'd like a rather more high tech sound. Less of the WHSSNSHSHSSHRRHRHRHHTHTHRHR and more of the HMMMMVVVWWWEEEEEEEEEE *poink*.
Oh, and for those of you who want game sounds but not the warp sound, there's a simple solution.
Don't use warp.
