I'm a noob that wants to start pirating, but have no idea what to do. I don't want to go head first blind. I only have a merlin so I'm pretty sure I gotta get a new ship before I start.
What ship should I shoot for in the future? What mods and what security sector space should I stay in with it?
I have 5 million ISK to spend atm.

Hiya Lems.
Solo piracy in a frigate is a very risky business. Its perhaps better to try for a cruiser, or even better, work in a team.
If you dont mind the sec hit, then low sec 0.1-0.4 is your best bet, as the 0.0 space tend to have more experienced customers (who will probably shoot you, or call in alliance buddies)
the Punisher, Rifter, Incursus and Kestrel are all great frigates. If pirating in a frigate you have to either aim to kill the enemy fast (sorta hard to do, but possible) or be able to tank the damage and hold the enemy in place.
As a frigate pilot, speed is your friend. Use it. Thats a diasvantage of the Caldari ships as they tend to be slower and less agile than other ships.

I'm not a pirate, but I imagine pirating in a frig wouldn't be impossible. Especially in lowsec (0.1-0.4) where people aren't always hardened PVP veterans. In a frigate you're going to want to be fast and stay close to your target so turrets won't be able to track you, fortunately few people typically mount smart bombs in my experience. Maximize DPS, and pack a warp scrambler and webber. A frigate could probably kill a cruiser or battlecruiser set up for PVE as long as its not loaded out with webbers or assault launchers. You might even be able to catch an unexperienced battleship pilot in a bad situation, scramble him, and let the rats finish him off.

Stay on the "sea side" at least 10 months ....u will surely manage to become one of the miserables pirates! ! ....after a year and something...i know what i am talking about! |
