I spent a few hours roaming (hisec) in several empire regions, have not seen a single ghost site yet. Do they need to be scanned down? I thought they were anomalies and will just appear as 100% strength on the probing menu. If I were to guesstimate, I might have gone through 100 stargates.
Anyone with better luck?
I don't think my ship is tanky enough to withstand an explosion, so I was simply out looking for trouble. But I'm failing at looking for trouble, apparently.

I'd look outside high sec. All the high sec exploration sites have much higher turnover because of the large population looking for them. I'm not sure of the rarity of ghost sites versus security status, but I've seen one so far in WH space. www.ensignyooch.wordpress.com |

Because nobody else is looking for them... especially in hisec. |

They are pirate faction anomalies that will crop up in all parts of space. If you're lucky enough to come across one, it'll automatically appear on your system scanner. |

Incorrect. I logged in, and there was one sitting in Ivar, green anomaly diamond.
Went back into the station, grabbed a BC, threw a scanner on it, and undocked. Jumped to the site, went to the nearest depot, hacked, looted, and came under fire from a bunch of ghost cruisers. Maybe 90 seconds to two minutes after jumping to the site. Everything blew up, ghost cruisers left. Maybe 6-7,000 hp explosive damage, not sure. Had a couple of explosive hardeners active.
I think a BC is overkill for hisec. |

I haven't been looking, but my corpmate found two last night, one exploded, one he got away with loot from. That was in maybe an hour. |

I found 2 in my home hisec system last night. Confirming you don't need to scan them down.
Warped in to first to find 4 hackable containers about 20km apart. Managed to hack 3 but they were all empty. Tried the 4th but the timer was up after 5 minutes of me being there. Lost a Heron to cruisers that spawned, or maybe it was the site exploding. Part of the Ship, Part of the Crew. |
