Edited by: Four Fingers on 22/02/2006 17:36:07 Hi,
i'm going to be away from Eve for about half a year to relax and get a life.
I have about 6 bil. As we know, inflation in Eve is still an ongoing process.
What would you invest the ISKies in to keep them from loosing value?
Would a random T2 BPO do the trick? I'm looking for the least risky options.
Thanks a lot

You could give it to me, while it might not be a safe investment, I would have alot of fun.

A Tech II BPO might be a bad idea if the supply of it suddenly increases during your absence (notice the Devs are thinking about tweaking the system). Personally I would see how the price of a certain mineral has adusted over the years for inflation and then use that as a hedge.

Invest them in me. I'm like gold, stable and high value, and everyone wants me.

On a more serious note, I think BPO's might drop in price in future with the up and coming changes to the T2 BPO/R&D system.
You could buy shares in a corp, like that new Bank one, where you get a return on you shares. ISS do shares too.

Edited by: Alexis DeTocqueville on 22/02/2006 17:39:56 Asking Market Discussions what would be a prudent long-term hedge against inflation is a really good idea. In fact, I think I'm going to make a post about that right now.

trit imo; gms are getting more tools to ban macroeers which is going to push up the price, as is the amount of capital ship production (titans anybody?)
Also the loss of 6b worth will drag it up again a bit

Pick a GOOD tech 2 BPO. Don't buy any that have been released in the past 6 months--they're too volitile.

Edited by: Jinx Barker on 22/02/2006 17:42:43 My suggestion:
Contact ISS, or BIG, or NAGA. those guys have established themselves as one of more trustworthy entities in the EVEverse. Probably, they can arrange something for you? I dont know, but if I was in similar situation i would contact one of those guys and see if they have an "offer".

Edited by: Alexis DeTocqueville on 22/02/2006 17:44:28 The problem with that is he just wants a low-risk low-return investment...ISS (god forbid) might collapse, it might not. It's still an equity security, and equity securities are extremely volatile.

One thing for sure: diversify. Pick several, unrelated investments. This will always reduce your overall risk.

6 months LONG time in eve. It's probably too long of a time to predict what mineral/mod/blueprint/ship will loose, increase or hold its value.
Your safest bet would be to keep it in your wallet until you return, at least that way theres no chance of you loosing it.

There is a very large opportunity on the horizon in Eve. No official statements have been released yet, but the word on the back docks is that a player ran, controlled, and audited stock market is nearing. You could invest the money in the entity or in the different corporations that list within and return, hopefully with a much large worth.

Note that if you're not producing, a tech 2 BPO almost always goes down in value. The whole point of a T2 BPO is to produce items faster than the BPO loses value.
You don't use one as a hedge against inflation.

except for BPOs that how a long production cycle (demand>production). (HAC went from this time last year 5-7b to 20b+) but this could change any day if CCP decides to change something about them...

Maybe a BS bpo and you can log in a few minutes once a week and make more bpc's and list them on escrow?

The best advice i can give is make your investment diverse, the broader your market, the less likely you are to lose your investment. Dont put it all in trit, dont put it all in mex, dont put it all in bpo's. Put it in a lot of things. :)

If you don't want to hang on to the ISK in your wallet, you could invest in low-end t1 modules & ships. There will, hopefully, always be demand from new players, and will always be NPC sellers to compete against.

Thank you for the free publicity.
I would not invest in shares if I had to stop for six months, they are too volatile and you need to keep track of them.
Don't forget to diversify!

hmm... how about high skill characters or prepaid codes?
Minerals are going to keep their value, but they don't protect you from inflation. Maybe 3 month region wide buy orders for empire space minerals with low prices. You most likely get some profit from them when you come back.
Equipment and ships are not good investement - there is allways coming new and better items and ships. BPOs have same problem - first few months you might have almost monopoly, but later on there is going to be more and more BPOs in market - or there is just simple going to be better BPOs.

That is extremely stupid advice. Where things currently are, the only place I can see them going in 6 months is down.
