I finally got that shiny battleship in the sky two weeks ago, culmination of months of hard work and slave mining - and my corp was strong, some 47 members, and growing still more. I lived and breathed on the recruit channel, the blueprints channel, the explorers channel.
And then the disease struck...
Suddenly EVE was a great nothing in the sky to me - no content, no depth, the only way to go would be to war with other players - the only reason to *ever* touch a damn rock again would be to help teammates get their battleships, but i desist - you all know the EVE-disease, you know what im describing.
So i ask, what do *you* do to keep EVE interesting? I've tried an intra-corp combat league, talking my mouth off to tons of players, exploring, fighting, pirating (NPCs that is), trading, even considered podding a person or two, but i dunno, somehow EVE seems a hollow game to me at the moment.
So i continue to give CCP my $12.95/month, and my character continues to bulk up skills wise (2.6mil now!) but, baring me not logging on for 3 months, what can be done to restore interest in a game where I see nowhere to go anymore?

I see your dilemma.
I played a lot of Asheron's Call, hardcore style. What kept that game interesting was the quests available for items or simply to move the storyline along. It's good to have player-driven content, as long as it's not fully player-driven. Events are good, but yet still have to be played out by PC's.
I suppose your right about the whole "EVE disease". What *do* you do once you have one of the most powerful hunks of steel in the known EVE universe. You can't really go much higher.
I guess what I'm wondering is: Will CCP add quests in the future? The kind of stuff Asheron's Call, DAoC and Everquest were built on.
I'm not saying they should copy these genres, but learn from them in regards to what drives players to explore and face danger. Be it for a reward or simply the thrill of being involved in a part of the EVE storyline without having to participate in player-organized events.
I truely feel your pain Red Knight.

Well, I am still running around in a cruiser. But frankly, I would like to see a bunch of corporations group together and rise up against the stain alliance(I am a member btw) or some other major organization.
Right now, there is no point to the battleship except to say "Oooo, look at me, I have a big ship. Watch me fly in my big ship!"
A massive war would eliminate the overflow of battleships and keep people and cruiser level, while only the top(or very very quiet players) gain battleships.
Sure, there is the random pirate battle. But that is like comparing the recent invasion of Iraq to World War 2, which is the kind of large scale, multi-corporation conflict that eve was really meant to do.
(As much as this may sound like it, this is not an attack on anyone) People have become lazy and frightened. They expect the game developer to make all the quests exciting and enjoyable. When you joined eve, you knew this was a PvP game when you joined it, so go make it a PvP game. Have a large war, be a bounty hunter. If you have a cruiser, work for a battleship. If you have a battleship, open the gates of hell.

Hi RK. Long time no talk. I've been on vacation but I'm back now. I've been in the same dilemma as you for a while now. Once you've mined 'til your eyes bleed, traded 'til your eyes bleed and killed NPCs 'til your eyes bleed the only thing left to do is hunt other players it seems. The game lacks challenge. The sad thing is "piracy" is seen as griefing by many and bounty hunting just isn't possible given current game mechanics. So what do you do? ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

I don't understand this post.
EVE is a PvP game. Go out and shoot some players. Have a war. Use your battleship. There are way to many players now who have battleships but don't know how to use them. Kinda sad really. Don't wait for ccp to spoon-feed you content. Make your own. Get your corp into an alliance. Wage a war. That is what EVE is all about.

I've also recently gained a Bship, and it was hard work getting it.. We were only 4 or 5 mining continuously for the minerals over a few weeks. But we finally got a Bship for our corp, and I was #2 in getting one.
Right now I look at my armageddon as a miner and nothing else, because if I would go out and stupidly kill the bship, we would have to start all over again, not a good thing.
So we are mining to increase our mining proficiency so that if we lose a bship in the future, then it won't be long to replenish.
The next step for alot of us is PVP fights (do you know how much fun it is? it's alot of fun), but as we suck at pvp, we need experience, and that means training on cruisers while mining on bships.
So I guess a bship is giving you the freedom to do what you want to do without having to worry too much about somekind of a steady high income.

Yes, go lose your ship right now, before you can replace it!

You people don't seem to get it. When you work 5-7 hours A DAY to get a ship for 2 weeks, you don't want to lose the ship before you you've got that kind of money again.

This is exactley the reason why I will never purchase a BS. I would not date to take it outside 1.0 systems.
One day I will create a PC pirate alt. "are you a winner or a whiner?" |

Yeah, cool.
Mine for weeks to get a BS, get it blown up in 5 minutes and basically lose everything you have, and then go mine again for weeks. Oh yay.
And what do I do? Well, I just reopened my EQ account...

LOL Well I can understand the wish to be able to replace your bs almost immediately if you loose it to some pirate. Just a few players or corps have the skills or luck to be able to buy whatever they want. Many players who buy their bs have all their cash and hard work put into it. They gotta make sure they have some cash if things go wrong. So keep on mining in your bs and maybe then go out and kill people. If you go do to 0.0 space immediately without any cash/minerals backup and you die, then many of you will quit this game for sure. So protect yourself! -----------------------------

If you insure your bs for 100% you can buy yourself a new one with equipment and have lost around 10-20 mil "only". Of cource, if you don't loose it in that week you'll bite in our own arse
As for what I'm doing - hunting m3g4 is fun (or at least trying to)

Sad little puppies =p
I really can't say much...only this..
Why don't you try and really 'get into' the game ;)
You know all those big corps that pull all the major news topics? You know why this is?
Try and find out!
I'm sure youl see what the game is all about...
As for you Red Knight...maybe youve been a little to 'safe'. Try some excitement.
The boat of 'yeah sure mine for weeks to loose your bship in 5 minutes' doesn't float for ****.
Who is saying you need to 'lose' your ship now? Nobody. What we are actually saying is you should do something a little more exciting...wich entangles danger preferably.
Danger does not equal suicide
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

I sell ammo to TTI and Xan/Evo.
On slow days, i sell mallers in Domain, inbetween podkilling innocent amarr miners in 0.0
None of the above is true ofcourse, but highly amusing nevertheless. ________________________________________________

I don't understand why people power play these games. I have a frigate and I'm happy running missions and pirate hunting I know the rest of the game is still before me....and then perhaps the agents will get fixed or we could join the navy or whatever but in the mean time its cool and good to feel somewhat vulnerable.
I fail to see what excitement you would get from mining continously for 2 months just to get a battleship and then go "now what?"
Its like playing "Splinter Cell" and shooting every guard. You can do it. Its easy and makes the game completeable in a weekend sneak about and its much more satisfying and a longer experience.

Heh, tomus, I just realized that same thing a day or two ago. I applied to DJ for eve-radio, and have slowed down my constant and never ending mining.
I might even check out this new "Outside" thing people are talking about. I heard the graphics kick ass, though some say the gameplay leaves a bit to be desired.

I agree Tomus, I tend to be quite happy with my collection of Gallente Cruisers and Frigates all fitted out for different purposes. I hunt a bit when I want to have a chance of some more than basic stuff, I mine when I need the minerals to build my mfg goods or I combine these two. When I am bored doing either or I just want to crash around the universe in fast nible frigates I do a bunch of agent missions. Better yet I chat with my bro's from HWT.
Its the power players who get bored but then again... I guess they always will no matter the game they play.

What i am trying to do is think of the future for my Corp.
I Know Mobile refineries will be coming out so i encourage the corp to build up for that. Since we dont know what we need it makes it interesting what we can do.
Stations will become available at some stage so we also mine that.
So we plan for something that will come, keeps us going.

I agree with what you are saying. I am bored out of my brains with Eve. There is no fun in playing anymore. For this reason I have cancelled my account. Too many of you guys say go and have a war or something. What if we dont want to? There should be more to do than fighting eachother. Afterall this is a big univers. Short of mining, hunting and trading there isnt anything else to do. We need quests, albeit interesting quests. That would make me re-subscribe. As it is Eve is now a very repetitive, shallow game and my $12.99 is best spent elsewhere. Oh, no you cant have my stuff

in response to those who maintain PvP is the answer (go out and kill RK!) ... ive done that - hell towards the end i was trying to organize an entire pirate hunter wing within my corp - ive taken my battleship out into 0.0, blasted away at pirates, but really its just too dangerous *unless* ur in a megacorp... im one of the suckers thats been locked out of the ark/bist belts, our corp gets our shinies from mining scord and selling trit/pyer to the megacorps...
but this isnt a whining post, just the point is that the benefits of winning PvP (loot you already have, prestidge) do not in my mind outweigh the risks (losing a month or more of hard work) ... in sheer terms of isk only the largest and most talented PvPers can make a life out of it.
and this question, the EVE-disease (or ED ) is slowly spreading... i love EVE, but im a starving college student, and im offering over that bad cancellation button in the sky - and i dont know what EVE needs.
actually i do - this is one of the most thorough suggestion posts ever, and luckily the devs have apparentally read it through and through, which is a ray of hope i believe.
i mean i guess we all have our pet projects, and maybe ill actually post in patch notes (since the devs seem to actually visit there ) some of my ideas...
but the point is, it is my stated belief that EVE will petter out without content, boosted interactivity, and more diverse ways to make money. a storyline wouldn't hurt either.
this is no easy task - think how overworked CCP must be - and perhaps they simply have created too grand a game for them to work with, not enough staff to run events, not enough resources to code everything we want...
my final opinion: cancel your account, renew in 4 months, play again - if past trends are any suggestion, your character may very well still be here, *plus* EVE will probably be bounds better... (or you can take the hard route, and stay in the game and try to create content for others to enjoy!)

To make up for the lack of content, I like to boss around my dear corp mates and be an ass late nights. Then if I'm really bored I go out start an NPC spawn, boss people around, AND watch TV. I'm dead serious by the way...
