Is anyone actually using this? :P
It has been running for about a month now and even though I think it's a good thing the usage is quite low, 18.6GB uploaded total on a month, and imo the resources used by the tracker is not worth 20ish GB/month.
What are your thoughts?

Im not using it, dont even know what it is. I think bittorrent uses too much system resources so I dont use it unless I have to.

I've used it once for seeding, and once for downloading. Worked pretty sweet, but dunno if the feature is worth the resources.

The bandwidth used by a tracker is really low compared to what it aided to transfer. I'd say 1-3% tops, so it could have aided tranfering 0.5 to 2TB. That's imo at least.
edit: my math bad, supposed to be 0.5-2TB (at least)

As the pirate i am( or smtg )
I use bittorrent everyday. there is good things about it and bad.
Its god for large files, if you dont want to pay for the traffic, it cost to have it one a web page.
but it the speed is in general slow, and 80% of those who use it dont know what it means to seed. it also sucks for many small files, like pictures.
It took my 3 weeks to download a file sized 17gb. and the client was running everyday.
300megs will properly take a night to download, and not 20-30 minutes (if you have 2mbit) so its not that handy.

btw, if you want to lower the bandwidth usage start banning older bittorrent clients that spam the tracker with update request. If done correctly the bandwidth the tracker uses should be a tiny fraction compared to the benefict.

It's a good idea, but you need to convince people to go through the hassle of seeding/leeching instead of simple click-and-forget uploading/downloading. For me, it's probably better with torrent since I usually get poor rates towards eve-files when uploading/downloading from Japan, while I guess I could use my connecting better through P2P. However, there's no point if no one else is using it, which ofcourse is a problem without ends. Some sort of effective marketing, such as more direct links to popular movies (maybe even seeded by yourself to get interest up) could do the trick though. Once it's established itself as an useful alternative, then there should be no more problem getting more people to seed their movies I think.

The bittorrent service you provide is overrun by the success of the Eve-files service itself. When people can download without having to upload then why upload, would you (honestly)?.
The only good thing about bittorrent is that the speeds could be better then the eve-files service, if that site is too slow for certain users (it isnt for me but ok..).
So in my opinion, the two services just cant run next to eachother.

For me its way worth it because I live across the ocean from the server and so the torrent is about 10x faster than a normal download. I'd perfer to see torrents as the only download option tbh.

I get better speed using GetRight then using torrent, i do use torrent often though.

Torrent is a revolution, to say the least. Its the only way of distributing information that dont force the "owner" to chuck up X x Y mb of bandwidth (whereas X is the filesize and Y number of users) and also scale better the more people downloading the file (torrent is the only known protocoll/delivery method that gains from popularity (More downloads means more to download FROM and therefore more speed and less demand on a singel person, i maybe download 1 mb from each person for a 1000mb file, instead of it all from one singel person).
Only reason why its slow for some, is that they are
1. Useing a old torrent engine, i would recomend ¦Torrent for those useing windows, its a REALY SMALL program (100kb), it supports multi-torrents (ie, download/seed more then one at a time) and it dont take any resources..
2. dont configure the program so that it has a open port
3. Dont limit the upload, i got 2/1 adsl so i have downloadspeed unlimited and uploadspeed 40kb/sec. During download/seed i normaly dont notice any slowness on webpages and in EVE. But if i put upload to unlimited everything will start to go slow.
Pro is, everyone who feels like helping can help seed a popular file (ie, latest eve-online client, patch, nberlarge movie etc) and others can download the file without chribbas server needing to distribute 2000gb worth of data..
So, i should remind you Chribba, seeding 5gb dont tell alot, rather se how many times the file is snatched (downloaded completely) aswell the amount of seeders (distributors) and if you can, how many GB transfered for that singel torrent, instead of just looking at your own upload wich, tbh, dont tell alot (thats the good thing with torrent).
torrent is good for the reason that i can download in my max connectionspeed and only need to "give" what i can afford, ie 30kb/sec during the time i download. And if i got a good connection, i can let the program seed the file for either a set time (10 hours for instance) or a set "ratio" of the filesize.
So keep torrent, but for the biggest files. this will make popular files download alot better/faster for those useing torrent.
Sorry if i dont make any sence (or spell like xxxx), I was awake to 04.00 and get up 9.00 just to call some stupid goverment crap....

Well it's not a question of bandwidth in my case only the question of bw vs resources.
The most downloaded file is equinox_-_contraband.wmv which has been downloaded 57 times, imo that is not worth the resources used by the tracker/client running.
But I have decided that I will not longer (at this time) provide the downloads via BT.
I will still keep everything ready to be kicked back in within seconds if needed, but for now I will shut it down.
Sorry for those who get slow download speeds from the site, this should be fixed when I switch ISP later on though so bear with me.

Use utorrent as Henka mentioned. It only takes up 5 mb in resoruces or so.

uTorrent is amazing. Its 130kb or so in size and uses 5 megabytes of memory, yet is by far the fastest Torrent client available. I rarely get below 200kbs.

I've used the bitorrent download a few times, but just now I got a http error on the tracker so I'm downloading "Use your fist..." through http now.

Im a proper leecher myself, i do use torrent sometimes but i never share.

There are 4 things that could cause that. One your ip isnt allowing very many connections through bittorrent which some are starting to do. Second is your firewall or router isnt working right and not allowing enough connection. Third is it isnt seeded well or a new torrent. Last is you client. I Personaly use abc and Azureus. My dl speeds regualy get in to the 500-700 KB range. yes that is a half a meg a sec, on good torrents.

Just a question regarding your torrents chribba, are they only made if you use the normal upload? and not if you use the remote download? couldn't find the torrent file after using remote download :/

Torrents where made when an admin approved the file (and if the file was bigger than 50MB). However I have disabled torrents now so your torrent will never show up, sorry.
