Oveur took a few minutes and wrote a new Dev Blog. In it, you will find a post-mortem of Tuesday's hardware upgrade, including some of the troubles we have faced with the web servers.
But that's not all!
He also talks about NEW hardware. Not the stuff we upgraded TQ with on Tuesday, but even MORE! How much more? You'll have to read to find out.
Still want more?
Bloodlines are coming, and will be deployed on Tuesday, 28 Feb. It needs more testing to squish the remaining bugs, but it is looking good.
Yeah there's still more left!
A topic that is absolutely certain to generate a lot, dare I say it, more discussion, Oveur shares some thoughts about skill points, the balancing tools that are in place and poses the question, "When is less really more?"
I promise, no more use of the word more.
Ni!

I LOVE the new server that CCP has saw fit to grace us with. Honestly how many companies tell their subscribers that they are upgrading, what they are upgrading to, when exactly they're doing it, what all it is going to help, and even letting players help test the new equipment before it goes online?
This kind of stuff is what made me a permanent Eve subscriber! We've got massive free updates coming out, a chance to preview them for NO EXTRA CHARGE on the system and help fix bugs in them. I mean WOW, just WOW (and I do NOT mean World of Warcraft). They even tell us about issues we the playerbase have brought up and what they're thinking of doing to fix them. What more can you ask for from a game, its developers, and the playerbase?
Thank you for listening to me babble a little here but after reading all of the dev blogs from the past few days, seeing a massive server upgrade, and playing the game I just had to say something!
Thank you Oveur, Kieron, and everyone else at CCP, the GMs, and ISD for making this a wonderful, fantastical game for us to play!
P.S. PWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE let Bloodlines come out on Tuesday ok? :-D |

Keep this up and you'll have a Tera-RAMSan at twice the price.
And the joys of caching all the data and system, though with the lower latencies of SDD I wouldn't think it would matter that much.

Probably Dr Caymas (I think thats what he's called). If you look in the skills forum from time to time there's usually a thread there where everyone posts their current sp totals.

OK, so the skills total adds up to 438371 characters. Now if we assumed everyone subscriber had 3 characters, that would be 146124 subscribers - 46k more than ccp state. If we assume 2 chars per account on average that would be 219185 subscribers. Both of these figures are way over the "we've broken 100K subscribers" claim.
Have CCP suddenly doubled there subscriber base or are the totals slightly off?!

You're forgetting that that category is five times as large as the previous one (4-5M).

The totals include also characters on inactive accounts, I believe.

kieron, what are you trying to say in "Skillpoints don't really matter?" section. Skillpoints are everything in this game, and our attributes dictate the speed limit.
You are forgetting the fact that so many people have lost skillpoints due to being podkilled. Or the fact that so many of those characters in your list are alts. Many people have dedicated alts in different fields. That means one person could have a total of well over 60mil SP with main & alts combined.
As you said, the average EVE player only stays for 7 months, and very few people are going to stay in EVE longer than 2-3 years.
With Mem & Int maxed out with +5s and learnings, I will be able to gain 23.3mil SP in 12 months training only skills with Mem as their main and Int as the secondary.
CCP has said that they will try to change lvl5 prerequisite on certain skills to lvl4. What about people who have spent weeks or months for that lvl5? Why not just increase the learning speed by introducing elite learning skills or whatever?
So can we please get a word on the Elite Learning skills? Peace!

Elite learning skills would actually benefit older players more than newer ones, unless those newer players wish to spend the first 6 months of their playing time solelytraining learning skills. Lowering skill req's is a far better solution - just because you trained that extra level doesn't mean you lose something.
Oh, and i'm in the top 269 people \o/ ----------------------

OMG...it's Omber Zombie.
Let's say you spent around 20 days for that lvl5 Mining Barage, just to fly a Covetor. Now they change it and you only need lvl 4 to fly a Covetor. The 20 days goes to waste and you are only left with that 3% yield.

"Why the large number of pilots with 5-10 mill sp as compared to the other classes nearest that? A big recrutiment drive I'm ofrgetting about or somthing?"
The graph would look more like:
########## ######## ###### ### ####### <-- 5-10 mil #### ## #
and given Oveur's comment how average player stays around for ~7 months, the 5-10 mil skillpoints 'class' is possibly combination of mostly 'dead' characters that gave up on the game over time ... and specialized alts of people with 20-30 mil sp on the main character, plus regular players at that particular level of 'development' of course o.O;

no elite learning skills please. just double the attribute points, or the training speed rate. but no more learning skills.

hmm there was a spike about 7 months - 12 months back and a more recent spike. Plus what about reactivate accounts where someone has been away from game for 5-9 months then come back and pick up - that could explain the dip in the middile of course
Still good to see that data how about a level 6 that grants instead ofa 2% boost as is level 5 grants another 3.5% boost to whatever benefits to make it a bit more worthwhile to train. I also guess tech 3 ships will be a good thing for upper players to play off.
